No contest for me. Josh Ritter. Genius lives there.

This should be fun. I like your pick, but need to think about this a while.

Its Friday evening. If the weekend thread is any indication, most obners are doing belly shots off coked up hookers about now. Or changing diapers and reading Berenstain Bears books aloud. Loogar might be doing both.

So are you limiting this to individual artists? Or would bands qualify...

I thought we did this with albums.

Regardless, for me it's gotta be Jack White.

He might be my choice if only for his work with The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and Dead Weather. But add in his producing work with Loretta Lynn, The Von Bondies, The Greenhornes, etc and it's a no brainer.

The guy was one of the best rock stars of the decade. He played with image and the media like few people these days are willing to do.

One of the few people from the early 2000's that I still look forward to seeing what they'll do next.

Now wait a minute. What are the qualifications? Band that released the most great albums in the 2000s? Or best artist whose debut album was not before 2000?

It should be the band that has released the greatest material of the decade, not volume.

so yeah, Radiohead wins by a long shot.

honorable mentions: The Strokes, The Libertines, and Sigur Ros.

Radiohead is hard to argue with but I think I'm going to have to go the Jack White route as well on this one.

Wouldn't be my own favorites.. but a strong case can be made for Jay-Z... or even, when his new album is heard this summer, OutKast/Big Boi... Kanye had a moment, but he became vomit-making....

I think it should be a band or a musician which came up not before 2000. I love radiohead but I don't think they qualify here.
