To each their own but this thread doesn't go past page 1 if we name our favorite. I mean, there is no argument. If you name Deerhoof, who am I to disagree with you?

EDIT- this was a response to drink's post

Someone who doesn't like Deerhoof? Since when has the "I like what I like" line of thinking ever stiffled anyone around here.

I mean, as tentoze said, carry on with the other argument.

Every single suggestion made along those lines bores me, to be honest. But maybe the whole discussion just isn't for me, and I should see my way out.

Discussing music in any kind of way never really bores me.

I would say Dangermouse had a better decade than Cee Lo.

Stick in the mud. That's a perfect descriptor for recent Radiohead in my eyes.

Y'all are high. Radiohead are hall of fame level, but, even given good music made in the 00's are a 90's band. Just stop listening to his voice and listen to the rhythm section and you will feel the future of rock (circa 1998).

I've never listened to a Radiohead album. Every song of theirs I've heard has done nothing for me.

You should try listening to OK Computer and Kid A all the way through.

I'm close to being in the same camp, but with a lot of love for OKC. They haven't released anything good since "Pyramid Song" in my opinion.

After White Blood Cells in '01 there was definitely a shift.

If I were picking, I would pick the Strokes. I know, I know, one album in the beginning of the decade does not make the best of the decade. But for me, it will always be what kicked off music in the 00s. It wiped out alternative rock radio and pop bands, and in my opinion gave hope to a ton of artists that they could make it. It's funny how few indie bands were out at that time compared to now. Even with the Jack White deal, the White Stripes didn't get traction until the hype machine started looking for the next "garage" act and stumbled upon White Blood Cells.

i would agree with the above.

the strokes were an absolute tour de force in '01. but their influence wasn't so big on anyone who's into music (most people who post here) as it was on the general public (friends, coworkers, siblings, etc. who we generally complain aren't into music). people who were listening to a steady diet of numetal and bubblegum pop trash liked them because it was new and those guys had a particular pedigree that made them completely accessible. that summer of '01 through the next spring were huge for what was before a pretty underground scene. other bands that sounded like them were springboarded to a modicum of popularity, if not outright fame. you can't blame bands for taking advantage of being at the right place at the right time.

i certainly wouldn't say they were the decade's best band, but it's hard to make an argument against them at least being in the conversation as one of the most important bands of the last ten years, if for nothing else than the way they were marketed inspired a ton of other good bands and then drove people who were lost in terrible music to search out their influences.

i wouldn't because I don't really like his music, but critically he's had more appreciation.

You guys have it all wrong. I like the Jack White argument and I will give him a solid #2 status behind The Shins. (The Strokes come in 3rd with maybe The Hives at a distant #4) The Shins seemed to make indie rock cool and something for people to aggressively seek out. They opened people's minds to see what else was out there and fine music that matters. Jack White (both the White Stripes and side bands) have really rocked a lot of people and hardly anyone doesn't get excited when one of their songs starts playing. The Hives had a really big impact on the garage scene even though they have waned in importance and popularity the last 4 years.
