Will easily land in my year-end top 10. Great comeback record if you were ever into them in the first place.

Whoa, this was 2009 I guess.

I knew that was Moby Grape, but I had to look up which album. It's Wow.

Curious to know what billy g thinks of that one as I've never moved past their debut.

Trojan Dub Massive: Chapter One - mixed by Bill Laswell

A great mix of classic dub tracks from the likes of Sly & Robbie, King Tubby, Prince Jammy, The Upsetters and more. What makes this mix a bit special is the treatment Laswell gives the tunes with a bit more bass than before, a bit of a contemporary sheen to the mixing, a few added touches here and there. A fantastic light touch of updating some classics, keeping them modern and fresh but without tarnishing their original sound.

I love the debut. Its probably a top 20 album for me. The first thing to get out of the way is that Wow isn't in the same league and doesn't even closely resemble it in style. Its much more bluesy and jammy. After my initial disappointment, I filed it away for a long time. I'm putting it back into rotation and trying to reassess it with more reasonable expectations. It has its moments - there are still some nice harmony vocals and some nice horns mixed in. I still haven't really taken to the album as a whole though. Skip Spence left the band after Wow so I've never dug deeper than the debut and Wow. If this grows on me, I might buy some of the reissues from last year.

Looks like Pete has the best day so far or at least the most billy g'esque.

Totally need to get my hands on a copy of that Stiff records box set.

Blue Öyster Cult: Workshop of the Telescopes

Well, if for any reason you would be in need of a Blue Öyster Cult compilation, this one's pretty damn good. First Disc is gathered up of their early hard rock stuff while the second kicks off with Don't Fear the reaper and covers their later, poppier period. I got a soft spot for this band as my first concert, but I don't have a need to gather up a bunch of their records so this 2 CD deal sets me up just fine.

Speaking of Trojan, did you see this, DW?

To be launched this summer is a new strictly limited edition 7" vinyl series of rare and previously unreleased recordings, performed by some of the best-known names in the catalogue.

Each disc is to be manufactured using only the best quality heavyweight vinyl and will be presented in a numbered Trojan bag, with only 250 of each title pressed up.

Kicking off the range will be the previously unreleased Desmond Dekker & The Aces double-header, SENTIMENTAL REASONS b/w SUGAR AND SPICE, recorded late in 1968 for Leslie Kong's Beverley's Records months before he achieved international success with Israelites.

Streaming Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros' 52 min. set from the recent Newport Festival on NPR. And, preemptively, fuck you dirty hippy haters.
