Completely blows you away in both mood, theme, context and execution.

I just recieved a Mix from a long time friend, and it is just stunning. Alot of times I recieve mixes that dont really pull through for me. They dont stand up on their own. Then I get one that is just so, so well done.

The art looks like a complete Cd. Not that this is a gauge to someones effort. But when that execution of Art is also part of the mix that makes it all the more incredible.

The person who sent me this mix doesn't read this board, but she should.

I bow to her skill....

Does this ever happen to you?

I haven't been getting too many mixes lately, but Billzebub always nails 'em. His Do Unto Others... The Split is awesome.

And Chase put one together a couple years ago called It Appears Another Night Has Gotten Away From Me that sustained a perfect mood from its cover art right through to the last song and outro.

Back atcha. The "Last Call" Vancouver comp is still in heavy rotation. I can't play it at work, because I have a tendancy to sing along with "Hawaii", which would be a CLM if I were overheard.

Cheers!

Mssrs. Billzebub(ba) and Radcliffe have really knocked me on my ass recently. Not just one, but 3 mixes each that are tops.

Shiv's mix is fucking good too. I happen to like the second half better, but that has more to do with mood than song selection.

Max and Marco's discs arrived the other day, but I have yet to digest them. Max's mix is like you said, almost an actual cd..with a real jewel case and front and back cover. looks nice and alt.country.

am i the only person who doesn't do artwork for mixes?

i haven't received a mix that blew my mind in a long time. i did just make one that apparently made the recipient cry. i got that as a short message while she was listening to it the first time, but i haven't talked to her about it since.

I'd like a tracklisting on this, yo! I need to be hip hop educated. So far I really only found Blackalicious that I like.

The best mix I ever received in terms of content, presentation, and editing was the one shiv gave me when I visited Boston last year. No question.

question- how do you guys put your mixes together? cuz it seems like you all put a lot of work into them... do you just randomly pick the songs and throw them together? i'm trying to make an electronica mix but i'm finding it to be very difficult.

i could write a book on this. um... it first depends on if the mix is just for my car or for someone else. if it's just for me, i can usually crank it out in a day by culling together the songs that initially made me want to make the mix and then listening to them randomly until an order sticks.

if it's for another person and it's a traditional mix, then it takes awhile. i'll usually go through my entire record collection and pick out songs that somehow seem appropriate for that person, based on the relationship i have with them. and then it's just a long process of putting the songs together in an order in which the sequencing makes sense musically and narratively.

i have two projects on the shelf right now because i just don't have a starting point. i find it easiest to have at least one song that absolutely must be on the mix and then working around it.

I download and listen to a lot of music. I find the ones I like best and match them together to make a personal mix. I've found that some songs, though they are good, don't work when placed next to each other. It's trial and error...but some people don't even pay any attention to this and put on MC Hammer right after Mastodon but hey, whatever floats your boat...

Ultimately, the mix you make should get you excited when you listen to it. If someone else digs it I consider that a bonus.

edit: ...and what z said. Yeah.

I was afraid to ask for a hard copy, because I probably don't have anything you want in trade... AIM is another story. I'll PM you bout that one.
