I think that somebody may have dropped this link/article in here somewhere before. (And, maybe I even commented on it.) but I cannot remember nor can I find it:
Brian May of Queen is now DOCTOR Brian May — astrophysicist.

how come so many bands are covering When In Rome's "The Promise" lately? I feel like I've been hearing it like 2x a week lately.

Really? That is weird.
I heard Statistics do it once shortly after Napoleon Dynamite came out, and then I never heard another indie band do it again.
I would think a song like that would be popular with the Christian rock folks, but since I never go to those shows, I wouldn't really know.

This is one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time by a studio that was hugely influential on design and motion graphics in the past decade:

I guess we should consider ourselves lucky that he haven't gone into triple digit temps this year, and it looks like it's going to stay just below 90 for the next week or so.

The heat wave here officially ended on Monday night when it finally rained. I believe we were close to the streak that Bobbo mentioned, although all our 100+ degree temps were heat index temps and not usually the actual temperature.
It was pretty fucked up when it was like 106 degrees at 10pm a few weeks ago, that shit just doesn't usually happen here. Darkness usually means a dramatic cool down in these parts.

We had around 20 days of 100+ highs during the summer of 2007. Sucked. Then summer 2008 came and I think it broke the mid 90s maybe once.
This summer has been humid and annoyingly hot.

We've been hot as well. There was a string where we broke 100 a few weeks back. The humidity is out of control as well. As soon as you walk outside you are dripping. Mid-Atlantic humidity is a pain.

No rain either. Finally starting to get some drops here and there, but you'd be hard pressed not to find a scorched lawn. Corn is dead too.

I'm looking forward to a quick visit home on late Sept., right around when most of the immediate surroundings have burst into flames.

also, I'm really digging this Screaming Females song.

Whoops I forgot to post a response. Yeah, its really good. I forwarded it to other people around the office here who work with AF as well. It made me feel good that I can do some of the things, but other things are way out of my league.
------

I love projects in which designers try to redesign mundane objects that we take for granted, or we are so grounded into a certain concept. The US's currency being one of them. I doubt that the Gov would ever adopt such a bold concept, especially with the upcoming rebranding of the $100 bill (which I saw the paper while in Mass--its very impressive). Plus, with as bi-partisan as the country is right now, the $1 concept would never fly. However, the length and vertical ideas? Those are awesome.

I'm pretty sure if the US currency was redesigned while Obama was in office there would be outright revolt in pockets all over the country. Like, "I just bombed the post office and shit" revolt.

it would be pretty awesome if he made one of the bills his birth certificate, though.

Yeah, the $1 with him on it just isn't feasible. I was going to post this on FB, but I'm pretty sure I'd get about 100 snarky comments that I just don't want to read through about this. I'm already inundated with comments every hour about the mosque and Pelosi.

They're very "Monopoly money", but I like the layouts for the most part. I like the idea of something more meaningful than pictures of Presidents being on them.

I dunno if you guys read the article, but I found the idea that most of our monetary transactions are vertical (think soda machine, when you had someone money) as a design feature is really cool.

I think the white paper would get really ugly fast though.

It's 100% bullshit that we don't have bills that blind people can tell apart. It's 200% bullshit that Treasury says that it's "too expensive" while redesigning shit constantly.
