a few years ago a couple here hung themselves from the top deck of a bridge so they would be dangling out for all the cars going over the lower span to see during morning rush hour.

good times.

The Jason Whitlock media extravaganza

http://deadspin.com/5617071/jason-whitl ... travaganza

Very, very controversial Jason Whitlock is taking to the airwaves tomorrow to explain why he's leaving The Kansas City Star. This apparently requires two broadcast media, $300 worth of barbecue, three hours in all, and perhaps the crew of the S.S. Minnow.

Whitlock will appear on Nick Wright's show on KCSP in Kansas City from 3 to 6 p.m. CST. He had a few demands, of course. In an email, Wright tells us:

He wanted 1 hour for himself to explain why he left The Star and whatever else is on his mind. Then I will interview him for an hour, then we will take phone calls for an hour. He also wanted the whole thing broadcast on TV (we secured a local sports station, Metro Sports for this), and then the best part....

We have to cater it with Gates Barbecue, his favorite Kansas City spot.

It's all so very Whitlock that the real wonder is why he didn't just do the damn thing from the Bazookas Showgirls champagne room.

As for that dude who jumped at the Swell Season show...that's really screwed up on a lot of fronts. For the obvious reason, but also because so many people a)witnessed it, and b)the band/crew is now probably just a bit scarred. Why pick such a public arena to do that in?

I was coming here to post about this. I'm surprised Radcliffe hasn't made a joke about the music causing the guy to jump.

SFGate coverage

Quote:
the band had just finished the ballad "When Your Mind's Made Up." Pantages said band members had been bantering when he glimpsed an object falling near the lead singer, Glen Hansard.

"A giant black object just crashed next to the singer," Pantages said. "I thought a light had fallen from the catwalk, or maybe a sound technician had fallen from the catwalk."

Hansard was the first to approach the body, Pantages said.

A doctor leaped to the stage and attempted to revive the man, Sung said.

The Swell Season canceled the rest of the show. It posted a statement on its website today, saying, "The band, crew and all involved with them are shocked and saddened by the unfortunate events of last night. Our hearts go out to the victim ... and to his friends and family."

that movie was really intense, because it started off all quiet and introspective. a real two-dudes-bonding movie

then it just gets blood soaked at the end

The high today here in Dallas was 105, and felt even hotter. I think that's the hottest I've ever felt being outside before - or at least that I can remember. The LOW last night was 83, one degree "cooler" than the all-time record hottest low in Dallas history...on any date.

FemDerris and I went to Asheville, NC for the weekend to celebrate her grandmother's 86th birthday. Had 2 cabins right on the French Broad river. It rained all afternoon but cleared up around 5 or so and it dipped into the mid-60's that night. I actually wore jeans for the first time this summer.

It was awesome.

It's been cool and rainy all day here. There's a breeze coming through the door and I'm in pajamas on the couch under a blanket watching a movie. I'm so happy.

I didn't know he was "gone" or "back" but I think that was in like 4 threads...
