Saw their Denver show with Free Energy last night. They killed it even more than when I saw them at Emo's. Everyone behind the pit didn't look like they were having fun but I guess that's the norm for some shows now.

Saw this same show/bill in Atlanta last night. Both were great and certainly a pairing of bands I wouldn't have put together for a tour but it works.

Free Energy: Got there right before they went on. I like their record but after multiple spins I've found myself just listening to the first 4-5 songs because it kind of loses steam. That said, the songs really came to life live and they played some songs from the back end of the album that made me completely change my mind on them. I was curious how they would pull off this kind of melodic stuff and was a bit wary when the lead singer started out rocking some 80's J. Geils moves but they were pretty infectious. Really nice to see a band in an indie rock club smiling and having fun playing rock'n'roll. Just cool to see a young band like that, playing that kind of music, with a successful record (by modern indie standards), and having fun.

Titus Andronicus: Not sure what I had pictured in my head with these guys but they certainly weren't what I was expecting. The lead singer/guitar player must've sweated a gallon of sweat over the course of just under 2 hours. They just pummel you with bursts of power chord riffage and screaming choruses. It was kind of a contrast to Free Energy. The lead guy was clearly pretty passionate about what he was doing but it could've been a little too earnest if it wasn't for the chick rhythm guitarist/violin player who provided a bit of levity. She smiled and bounced around the whole time. I was really impressed with her. Nice to see a girl rock like that and not try to dress like a dude. She rocked the fuck out, wearing a sun dress no less.

Great show and worth every penny of the $10.

That said, I'm sure it just means that I'm getting old but man, I just can't stand there for 3 straight hours like I used to. I got there right before Free Energy, right before 10pm, and the show ended right about 1am. Stood the whole time. I wasn't drinking much so maybe there's something to that but I was ready to sit the fuck down. What a drag it is getting old......

Oh, and Free Energy covered Springsteen's "I'm Goin Down" with all the member of Titus coming out to sing it with 'em.

Great cover and one of the highlights of the night.

You & me both, brother. & I'm from their town.

This is pretty much the problem I have with this band, but every live clip I've ever watched has been way more enjoyable for me than listening to the records.

Anyway, at least you're not feeling so old that you don't even go to shows anymore.

You're old and TALL. I have to wear my asics and sometimes pair them with socks that support my arches. It's weak-ass thirtysomething shit, but if I don't wear supportive shoes, the back of my knees start killing me and my back tenses up. Doesn't help that I'm really out of shape. Booze does help as I don't really "remember" having that problem when I smoke beforehand and drink during a show.

Caught the show, always a pleasure running into Derris.

I fucking loved it, though I could have done with a shorter titus set. All their songs are so epic by the end you're ready to move on to something else...at least 4 times during the last 30 minutes I thought "this should be the ending right here..."

They played this at my show! Right after Amy (the guitarist/violinist of Titus) ended up sneaking into the crowd to catch the end of Free Energy's set and she was right by us.
