Kim Gordon sucks...she's lucky to be in such a great band.

The only song this band ever made with balls was the blues one off the last one.

And I only give them half a point because it was a blues song so the balls are implied.

I then deduct that half a point because they're quite possibly the worst live band going.

The saddest thing about indie rock at this point is that if you turn in a record of songs that are fives, you get an eight just because there were no twos. Makes sense to everyone but me it seems...

Finally gave it a spin over the weekend and can say without question that I like it more than Neon Bible even after only one run. I agree with Bloor that it's a bit overlong with couple of unnecessary slower numbers but on the other hand I enjoy that there's a lot to dig through.

I probably should've gone to see them at the 12,000 seat venue they played here because something tells me that by the end of this tour they're going to be hitting arenas for the foreseeable future.

They're the new U2.

Seems like a more apt description to me.

Yeah, they really have none of the punch, hits or crossover appeal of U2.

REM either for that matter, but they are a more apt comparison than U2.

I think what hurts this one for me is the combo of Modern Man and Rococo three and four songs in. So far they're my least-favorite songs on the album and they kill the momentum early on.

I think the reason I like this band is that I don't EXPECT them to have any balls. It's pillow fight and doilies shit, and sometimes I like that if it's done well.

Man, I've always hated when people say this. I find a lot of Kim's songs to be more enduring than a lot of Lee's and Thurston's on the latter albums, from Dirty forward. She practically made Murray Street great.

And I don't really get why people have issues with the chick in Arcade Fire, either. The worst moments on Neon Bible seemed to be due to Win's heavy-handedness and over-earnestness.

I far prefer Thurson as a singer... but I like the albums which mix some Kim songs with some Thurston songs. Kim Gorden isn't the best of singers... but she does what she does and makes SY what it is.

The Arcade Fire chick, on the other hand, is an abomination.

Hard to dismiss Kim as a "chick singer"...She sounds like a tougher dude than Thurston.

Also, if you "don't like Sonic Youth songs sung by Kim Gordon" I'd argue you that don't like Sonic Youth: Don't pretend like you do.

I'm gonna assume you meant "not fucking love this shit".

But in this case I'd have to say that it's totally Lee and Thurston making the song awesome.

Not really understanding the love for this. One of the more boring albums I've heard this year. IMO, hardly anything catchy, almost nothing memorable, and the lyrics seem like they were thrown in at the last minute after the band got done banging on their instruments.

That one's good and Half Life I is one of my favorites on the album. I like her songs - glad they limit her to two or so an album but enjoy them for what they are.

I like that song, but Regine sounded horrible singing it at the live-streamed MSG show. They restarted the song and she did better, but still not great. Overall she's pretty hit and miss live.

Bloor's right, Kim is the toughest sounding singer in Sonic Youth.

The girl in Arcade Fire's sounds like a hysterical teenager singing Kate Bush songs.

I actually guffawed when I read that.
and yeah, I bet she does.
