I got that impression too, based on his wry smile just as the elevator doors closed.

I thought it was just the look of a (literally) wide-eyed kid who just caught a break, but you're probably right.

On second thought I realized that their mid morning Martini session was what Don was talking about and I didn't hear anything like "You're hired" or "Welcome aboard" from Sterling in that scene--so Draper definitely conned him. Nice work if you can get it.

He's one of them but in the last 2 eps he's come off as kind of pathetic.

For some reason I've been finding Pete Campbell's character intriguing. I loathe him and think he's a kiss ass little shit and clearly unprepared to wear the hat of a person in a position of power, but for some reason I find the scenes with him entertaining and unpredictable.

His scenes like the one with Cosgrove are so cringeworthy that you can't turn away. And you're right, it's the unpredictability of his scenes and reactions that drive that stuff.

I've never been a huge Pete hater even though I watch MM every week sitting beside a person who loathes him in a way usually reserved for Nazis and genital warts. I've always sort of liked him even when he was being a douche and like Loog alludes to above--he does the painful and cringeworthy better than anyone.

But these last few weeks, first with his treatment of Trudy's father vis a vis Clearasil, then his standing up to Sterling and then Lane (where, let's face it, he almost overplayed his hand), I think the guy is really coming into his own as a force.

This Season has been great BTW--last season at times got the rap of being too soap opera-y with all the Don/Betty stuff (and rightly so), but this year it's all over the place and wonderfully so.

I used to be revolved by Pete, but this year I actually do like him. Solid work ethic, unappreciated, keeps the place going. Plus they havent shown as much of his terrible issues with women. He'll beat up his wife soon enough, though.

Also, hall of fame moment for Duck.

Openly attempting to grow a tail on some office furniture.

Dude, I somehow forgot about that. Holy, lolz, Batman.

And damn ol Peggy, she can't have Pete the shit heel or Faily-Von-Invite-a-Family but she can have any z-grade bleary eyed (rich) old sot she wants.

Life is full of these conundrums.

The fact that there was a fart at the beginning (like it was a Ren & Stimpy bit) pushed it into "Greatest TV Moments Ever" territory. Also we need a .gif of when he tensed up to push.

Fantastic fucking episode though. They really are on fire.

Interesting to think how Roger would've handled a steamer in his office.

I watched the first 30min or so (up until the Faily-Von-Invite-a-Family breakup) and loved the way the writers handled the scene where Roger is begging Don to go to the pre-Liston/Ali fight dinner. Roger huffs, puffs and whines like a spoiled rich brat when he leaves the office.

Its too bad really, such promise, but L. Ron Hubbard has apparently already tapped it.

Once you go thetan...

Seriously though, I watched the Peggy/Don episode again, my favorite this season so far.

Perhaps they could work in a Dianetics story-line, considering Scientology launched in the mid-century.

Yeah, going back and forth trying to figure out who was more pathetic yet simultaneously supportive with flaws was pretty impressive TV.

If my kid ever gets out of line, I'm going Lane Pryce's dad on him

Also, speaking of Lane - splitting black oak!
