So I've already got They Might Be Giants 'Here come the 123's' and a Dane Zanes mix that Dalen hooked me up with. That and some regular nursery rhyme stuff that does nothing but make me angry.

I was hoping that someone had some more Dan Zanes stuff and more of the TMBG kid stuff. But if there's anyone else that's decent that'd be welcomed too. Either hook up a brother or school me and I'll pick it up myself.

Thanks.

Try Ralph's World (Ralph Covert), he's along the lines of Dan Zanes: a quality songwriter first, who is now doing kid's music.

There's more TMBG kids stuff if you like it, and you could try Farmer Jason (Ringenberg).

Yup.
But, Mandy Patinkin, alone, makes it tolerable.

Catch the Moon by Lisa Loeb and Elizabeth Mitchell
Image

Quote:
Catch the Moon is a children's album recorded by longtime friends Lisa Loeb & Elizabeth Mitchell. Liz Mitchell is a noted performer of children’s music and key member of the modern rock band Ida. The package also contains a children's book written by Erin Courtney and illustrated by Brooke Mitchell, who is Elizabeth’s mom. The book is based on the CDs title song which was written by Lisa, Elizabeth, Elizabeth's husband and longtime musical partner Daniel Littleton and engineer Warren Defever (also known for his own records on the 4AD label under the moniker His Name Is Alive).

In additional to the title track, the music CD of Catch The Moon features traditional American family favorite folk songs like "Big Rock Candy Mountain," "Oh Susanna," "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Little Red Caboose." Loeb and Mitchell also adapted traditional folk songs from around the world including Japanese "Donguri," the French "Fais Do Do" and the Spanish "La Manita." There's a version of Bob Dylan's "New Morning" that sounds like it was always meant to be in this soothing, uplifting company, and a handful of new songs by Lisa and Elizabeth written especially for this project

Perhaps the only Elmo product that is tolerable, in fact. I actually don't mind this one at all because of Patinkin. He gives it his best!!!

It's pretty tolerable.

Also, the Elizabeth Mitchell album You Are My Sunshine is decent. You know, for what it is.

Have you tried any of the Rockabye Baby cds? My daughter loved them and they were pretty tolerable for me as well. Plus, I borrowed all of them from the library and copied them. shhhh...The ones we had were Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Elvis, AC/DC, The Beatles, Coldplay, Bjork, and some more. Anyway, they're not too bad and kids fall right to sleep with them.

Just the classic Ramones records are pretty great all by themselves.
Nothing like riding around with the toddler, screaming "Gabba Gabba HEY!!!" together.

But, then you have to explain that they are not part of Yo Gabba Gabba. (Or, do you?)

my kid likes anything with a beat so he can dance. of course he always then says "dance, daddy, dance" and I have to get up and show him how it's done.

I don't have any to up, but Trout Fishing In America has a pretty extensive catalog of entertainng (and not musically horrible at all- talented duo) children's albums. (Thought I already posted this, but the Alzheimer's must be acting up today.)

Do they sell that Home Movies disc independent of the fourth season? I feel like that'd be good listening.

Jason Ringenberg's "Farmer Jason" albums are a hoot for kids, and Stan Ridgway released a kids songs album last year. The "For The Kids" charity comp that's about ten years old is pretty decent as well.
