i love the time that we spend debating an above average football player on a mediocre team. it came a little late this year

What was up with the people fighting over it in the stands? Was he arguing that it was his?

I hate to say it, but the Bears actually looked good yesterday. It was a game that they deserved to win. (Unlike last week).

Why Cutler doesn't get the same kind of respect as guys like Rivers or Rodgers is beyond me.

Well, he's never led a team to a winning season (including four years in college). And nobody ever traded those guys three years into their careers. In fact, in both cases, their teams got rid of Hall of Famers* to let them take the reins. I wish I could explain it better but the bottom line is, the guy is missing some intangibles.

Based on his talent, would I be making the same argument you are making if he quarterbacked my team? Probably. Fan is short for fanatic.

speaking of rivers/cutler, i cannot fathom the amount restraint is has taken cutler to not go total bitch on his oline for making him run for his life so much. you know if it was rivers he would just lay down on the field and have a temper tantrum. that kick he had in week 1 was priceless

Clay is 2 for 2 in knocking out QBs - first Kolb, and now Trent (because of anemic play, not injury.)

Maybe if there is a work stoppage next year, NFL Network can schedule some sort of Bitch Fight between Cutler and Rivers.

Does Arthur Blank still have it hard for Vick? What about a three-team trade, then: Vick back to the ATL, Matty Ice to Philly, Kevin Kolb to San Fran (since Alex Smith is dogshit)?

Mr. Blank most assuredly neither likes MV7 nor does he want him back in a Falcons uniform.

It's some real complicated scorned lover shit.

Heh. Like Bloor essentially said, no fucking way.

I just posted that because Vick is simply a franchise killer, or a fanbase killer. What if Kolb shits the bed the next 2 games and people start screaming for Vick. The problem is the guy can do incredible things but, IMO, ultimately can't get you to the promised land with his skill set. If things turn ugly, suddenly thing start getting divided along racial lines, class lines, etc, etc. It can split fan bases down the middle and can turn ugly.

You wouldn't believe how nasty it got in Atlanta. There are still people here that defend him and say the Falcons shit on him and wear his ATL jersey to games. I've never seen anything like it.

Good for talk radio though I guess.

Nah. I doubt Vick would ever end up back in Atlanta. But, his skillset -- how much different is it from Steve Young's, or Randall Cunningham's? Young went on to much success, including Super Bowl win, in SF, while Cunningham had a nice run in Minnesota (accursed as that franchise is).

Granted, Young & Cunningham never had the, uh, issue of a jail sentence to deal with, but I think Vick could turn his career into something beyond "good on his feet, Conference Championship game potential, but not Promised Land". Hell, you don't think Whisenhunt would have killed to trade Leinart & a coupla picks to Philly for Vick, at the end of camp?

See that's the problem Monty. He makes you play the what if game which leads to pro-Vick vs anti-Vick.

I just don't think he has the intangibles that Steve Young or Randall had. I mean, Vick's had 2 300+ passing games. Young had 28. Granted, not a fair comparison since Vick hasn't had as many starts but it's a glaring fact.

I've just seen how bad it can get with the guy and think he's more trouble than he's worth. I also think he's gotten MUCH better at the PR game but I don't think he's changed much at all off the field. No, I can't prove this. Just my opinion.

It's always gonna come down to the fact that during the middle years of his career when he should have been working on his accuracy or how to use his head over his happy feet he either A. hanging around the block in VA Beach, fighting dogs and smoking blunts or B. hanging around Leavenworth

But personally, I want the guy to do well and I hope he does--just not with or against the Falcons.

Also Derris, the racial component to the Vick story could only happen in Atlanta.

Given that the only NFL city and metro area with an even comparable African American population is New Orleans, and given the affluence of the African American population in Atlanta, I'll stand by my original statement, thanks.
