Given that the only NFL city and metro area with an even comparable African American population is New Orleans, and given the affluence of the African American population in Atlanta, I'll stand by my original statement, thanks.

You're just discounting the fact that black people and white people hate each other all across our great nation, and that Oakland is probably the only city without a significant white fan base (unless you count Hell's Angels).

You're telling me that if McNabb had gotten into some dogfighting ring the same dynamic wouldn't have developed?

And I'd like to see you back your statement up with population figures...Houston, NYC metro, Philly, Chicago, DC/Bodymore metro are all black as fuck.

THANKS.

Sure. Atlanta metro area ranks #6 in percentage of African Americans with 31.6%. Then only NFL city with a higher percentage is New Orleans and the next highest is DC at #11 with 26.2%.

In terms of total number of African Americans, Atlanta ranks second to New York (which obviously has a lot more people but they only account for 16.2% of the total population.)

I think your best argument would be for New Orleans (because of percentage of population) or DC/Baltimore (because of population AND affluence). So I'll concede those two.

Also, the mix in your beloved Oakland is 36.9% White (Non-Hispanic Whites: 25.4%), 29.8% Black or African American, 0.6% Native American, 15.6% Asian, 0.8% Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander 12.9% from some other race and 3.7% from two or more races. Hispanics or Latinos (of any race): make up 25.2% of the total population.

Regardless, Vick named the starter for the near future today.

Andy Reid isn't one to waffle on an issue like this... anyone think he's making these announcements just to confuse the other team's preparations?

Maybe, or the owner pulled Reid into his office and TOLD him he was starting him. Who knows.

It'll all be copacetic if they're winning. Go on a 1-4 stretch and these are the things that kill locker rooms.

The city of DC is over 50% black (as are lots of cities), but the fanbase of an NFL team and the coverage of talk radio, circulation of newspapers, tv stations etc isn't limited to city limits, so I went with metropolitan statistical areas.

I just think you're conflating AA% with the possibility of an epic racial divide in a fan base. You think you and I and say, Lamont, have the same perspective on UGa's troubles?

You think that Philly, or DC or really any town with extremely rich black players, white working class fans, and black fans is immune? What do you think your average Black Pats fan thinks about their team MVP vis-a-vis Moss and Brady? What about z grade townies like shiv?

I just don't buy that the Vick divide is unique to Atl. Just look at the divide among all of us on Richt, ad a racial component and voilà.

I just know that A. Even though it can occasionally provide good radio, the hosts on the Zone complain that every issue in this town gets racialized [sic] in a way that it doesn't in other cities based on their conversations with other cities' hosts. Like it can completely make a sports discussion evaporate. and B. As you know, I'm addicted to the comments after newspaper articles and ditto, comments in the ajc always tend to "go there" a lot faster than anywhere else.

I realize these are totally anecdotal which is why I didn't bring them up earlier, but I think it's important to consider. Hell, why do the Two Live Stews even have a career except that they defend the African American position on EVERY issue, right or wrong, EVERY time? When Vick was struggling and we had the obviously talented Matt Schaub on the bench, it was racist to even consider playing Schaub. Every decision the Braves have made from the trading of David Justice on proves they are a racist organization that favors whites and Latinos over blacks. The fire stoking columns of Terrence X, The Real Housewives of Atlanta and that uber embarrassing ESPN townhall special The Vick Divide--it all adds up.

And look, I'm not saying there aren't still racial issues in other cities and nationally (OJ, the Don Imus thing etc.) but they do take a unique spin here. How many people are calling up WIP in Philly and saying that not resigning Brian Dawkins and trading McNabb are racially motivated. How about the Patriots history of cutting ties with players like Lawyer Malloy, Ty Law and Richard Seymour? Do callers and commenters hammer the Patriots for being racist? It would totally happen here.

Never... Though you will lose. Clay & the boys against the Bears offensive line will decimate; Peppers will merely bulge the Packers front.

Rodgers: 24/31, 293 yds, 3 td passing.
JORDY!: 4 returns, 130 yards. (Conceptually, I hate Green Bay having to feature a WHITE SPEED RECEIVER to placate the fanbase, but when he's good, I really cannot complain. Jeff Query still needs to die in a fire, though; preferably, one started when a drunken Travis Jervey (not, technically, a receiver) runs his car into a oil refinery.)
Matthews: 4 sacks.

Cutler: 15/26, 201 yds, 1 td, 2 int.
Urlacher: broken hip.
Peppers: 1 sack, 3 tackles for loss.

That racial debate would NEVER occur in New Orleans.

Seriously, with the success of the Saints, I think that race relations here are better than ever. We don't have a race polarizing figure like that on this team. Breesus won't allow it. Vick did his bad, and he'll never live it down with most people. I totally agree on his PR skills overreaching his real life character, though. Does that make me racist? (See, that's how it goes.)

Never? Please.

Also, the key word in your post is success.

You haven't had a single negative thing happen to the Saints in 10 months.

The all caps "never" was meant in jest, implied by the next sentence starting with "seriously".
