The Weakerthans Hello!
We are pleased to finally announce the release of the Jim Bryson and The Weakerthans album: The Falcon Lake Incident.
The album is being released on October 19, 2010 by Maple Music Recordings Kelp Records will release the 180G LP version (complete with download coaster!).

Recorded on Falcon Lake in Manitoba over six days in January 2010, The Falcon Lake Incident brings Bryson, one of Canada's truly under appreciated and engaging voices, together with Canadian indie rock heroes The Weakerthans. Guest appearances include Jill Barber, Gord Sinclair, Peter von Althen and Dave Draves.

"It was such a great place to be and make music. Jason was cooking, Stephen went on ski excursions and I generally talked to the wildlife. There seemed to be an real calming effect to recording so far away from rest of the world. I think when we left, we all thought 'how did we just do that'"?

Mixed by Darryl Neudorf and Dave Draves back in Ontario, the result is a compelling and engaging folk rock record that is both familiar and unexpected.

Jim Bryson and The Weakerthans Band will celebrate the release of The Falcon Lake Incident at the Horseshoe Tavern on October 19, 2010 in Toronto, ON.

International release dates to follow.

Finally!

Cool. Pretty much love everything the Weakerthans have done.

Nice. I look forward to it.

This reminds me that the new John K. Samson EP came out this week. Anyone get it?

Fuck yes, although I wish it was all John K. Samson.
Edit: songwriting wise. Metal Girls doesn't really feel like a true Weakerthans song to me though.

I'm excited for sure but agree the last one was a step down. I may just be getting sick of the dude's voice, though. The song writing was still top-notch.

Nonetheless, this news is a pleasant surprise.

I saw them... last year, I think and it put me in Weakerthans mode for a while after that. This is good news.

I liked their last album, just not as much as "Reconstruction Site".

I should give the last one another chance - I only spun it maybe twice before I put it away.

Hopefully it still sounds like Weakerthans--that's a lot of guest musicians.

I hope it isn't already in the 2010 thread, but I've uploaded my rip.

Not sure if you can really classify this as a Weakerthans album. It's Jim Bryson backed up by the Weakerthans - and the correct response to that is "whothefuckisJimBryson?"

Semi-literate, somewhat precious, indiefolktweejangle.

Short answer: no.

This is very disappointing news.

It's simple enough music. RIYL - Rhett Miller's music with a Pete Yorn (and at times John Mayer) feel.

I like the Weakerthans and think the Jim Bryson experiment works well.

I would've liked more of the Weakerthans sound, but I like Jim Bryson's style so I'm enjoying the collaboration.

Yeah the sound is exactly what you'd expect, and that's not a bad thing. I love the Weakerthans just as much for the sound/execution as for John's songwriting/lyrics.

Some stuff is indie-Canadian-pop that's just... there. Other stuff jumps out as great tunes in need to multiple plays.
