Congrats, Pete!

Osman scored at Fir Park once....but he didn't win that one.

Weddings are fun if you're the one getting married, though. It's a party that's all about you where all of your best friends show up, even the ones who live really far away.

I have no desire to be the center of attention like that. Actually, everything involved in having a wedding sounds terrible to me. I won't count out changing my mind if I meet someone I like enough to marry, but I don't see a change of heart about a ceremony and reception happening.

Vegas. Elvis.

Yeah being the center of attention isn't really what I meant. It's more that the people there are - for the most part - people you want to be there, and they're there for you. And they're people you may not get to see very often.

I know, but I wouldn't be able to get past the center of attention thing.

I saw Broken Social Scene yesterday and arrived at the venue early, so went to my seat in the balcony. I was the only one upstairs at the time and my face was so red it felt like it was on fire.

Stacy, you'll get over that the second you meet the right person. Seriously. And why the wedding hate? I understand hating sitting through the ceremony, but wedding receptions are pretty much awesome. Free booze, friends, everyone's dressed up. I've always loved weddings - hell when my aunt got married when I was 15 I got hammered on Zima and scammed a hummer off a fat chick that went to school with my cousin -- how could I EVER hate such an institution that led to such a seminal moment of bliss?

I suspect our dispositions, particularly in large groups, is at least as great as the difference in our heights, ol' Gar.

That's not to say I'm not prone to debauchery, but it normally happens on a much smaller scale.

I don't care if I never attend another wedding or not (or reception for that matter). Receptions can be fun, but I'd rather party in a more informal, less forced setting.

Now, my divorce party on the other hand will be something else....

All the weddings I've ever been too have sucked. That being said out of all my friends the only ones who have gotten married have been the religious type, so no open bar or even dancing.

Stacy, if I told you that I got to meet with a lighting designer for my wedding reception in December, would that change your mind about wanting a wedding?

The bartender at my wedding got stoned with several of my friends. And a friend got so drunk that he fell into the lake — twice! (It was outside, of course.)
Everybody had a good time.

Cheers, what a night!

On our second half performance, it was thoroughly deserved. Man Utd at home would be a nice draw

Extra points awarded to Kev Thornton for his cheeky shushing of the Kop, after converting his penalty.

Damn. Where were the weddings? In the fictional mid-west town in Footloose? Did the Reverend Shaw perform the ceremony?

I love a good wedding but will admit that they are infinitely better when it's for one of your friends where you know lots of people. FemDerris went to one in Charleston this summer where we basically knew the bride and groom and a loose acquaintance with another couple. Still had fun but it's not the same as those where you can't walk 20 feet without running into 5 people you WANT to talk to. Good times.

Small mountain town in North Carolina. It was liking going to church for three hours. Lots of hymns and lots of talking about god and always in the church. I will say that the church ladies do make great food for the reception, but that is about the only positive thing I can think of. I've been to two of these, and if any of my religious friends feel like getting married I think I'll just send a card.

i like to think my wedding was pretty neato

we booked an old masonic theater, decorated the stage in dead trees painted white and wrapped in thule

i booked this band from boston called The Burning Paris to come down and play the ceremony

this is what we walked down the aisle to:

...which, considering how things turned out, was entirely appropriate

haha Yeah, see... there's just no way I'd ever care to plan anything like that. Or flowers or place settings or whatever else goes into it. Also, I'm not a planner, so I have a natural distaste for anything like that to begin with.

I break my mother's heart a little more each day.

If you had a wingman/couple this could still rule. Bloor and I went to a wedding in Philly last year (seems like 100 years ago) and though we new the groom and his family, and a smattering of friends, the best time I had was talking up random gars, and making up back stories about Pete The Killer, Frankie No Nose, and The Allman Brothers.

I dunno, anymore I have just accepted that part of my life is schmoozing, and so I have convinced myself I liked it. Sorta like when we worked for Sieg and he would call people he knew hated him and ask them for double what he would his friends.

Ours was pretty cool. First, I wore a kilt and did a keg-stand or two (sadly, pictures exist). But we made sure ours was really casual. We were going to have an outdoor wedding, but the remnants of a hurricane were blowing through, so we ended up getting a boathouse on the property. Inside was amazing--looked like an old hunting cabin. Our friend who is a classical guitarist did all the music during the wedding, and then for the reception I rented a PA and hooked my ipod in with playlists of our favorite songs. Our first dance was to "The Weight". Best part was that it was at a state park, so the venue was free and the catering was done through them, so it was cheap. I think we spent at total of 5K on everything from invites to wedding.

So, I've read all the accounts. Its interesting because even among those in attendance, there are a few different stories as to what was happening on stage and in the crowd. In the comments section people were talking about Tufty being a jerk sometimes with the sound. Who knows whats true. Like someone said, if the bail was $150 wouldn't that mean the punching the girl bit is bogus? Anywho, he apparently canceled the rest of his tour. I was supposed to see him coming up here at the Watermelon Park Festival...guess that's not happening.
