Is the extra two large worth it for the HDTV? This is a big decision for me. Going to mount above the fireplace. Looking for the best combination of quality/price. I've shopped BestBuy and Circuit City online, as well as Dell.

Dell's got their 42" plasma HDTV for $2999. Anybody trust the Dells?

You must suggest!!

Yep, dell's cheaper than gateway on that one. Didn't use to be. And chase is right - HD is pretty damn cool. If you have the means...

if I like sports!!! I thought you knew me better than that, bro. So, is Dell worth the risk?

wait for Bloor to weigh in here, Mike. He just got an awesome new HD and it is huge, rectangle style, but not a wall mounter.

I would be afraid those dells would look like a big cpu screen, personally.

Only 4 or 5 companies make the guts for plasmas. Panasonic, Samsung, I forget the others. This is somebody else's on the inside, of course, and probably 1 guy's display in front of another guy's chipset / card. Just be prepared to get a new one in about 10 years. They look better than anything else out (I can't stand lcd's - they DO look like computer monitors, especially from less than 8 feet away), but they diminish in brightness over the years a little quicker than CRT's, and lcd's don't diminish at all.

Mine is LCD rear projection. I didnt have any interest or the $$$ for a plasma. So far, I've had no problems; I'm still trying to figure some of it out.

Any other questions?

I dont know if this will help at all in your search for a HDTV, but maybe it will...

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_attr ... tby=priceA

My brother is a sales person here:
http://www.flanners.com/

Here are a couple of things he always tells me.
Buy Pioneer or Samsung for HDTVs.
According to him, they offer the biggest leaps in technological advances, and are the most reliable.

You may want to read up on the difference between Plasma and LCD. Plasma is better in some respects, but things can burn into your screen with Plasma. If you have kids with video games with scores that stay on the screen a long time, that may be an issue.

LCD while cheaper than plasma and some times it's equal, have problems with fast moving objects. Every once in a while you may notice pixelated trails behind fast objects.

I personally dont own a HDTV, so I dont know all there is to know about it. Like anything, just do your research and you will be fine. I would tend to stay away from Circuit City if I were you.

Piss on it all. This is what I went with, with option package B.

I'll have to visit on a fall weekend then.

What happened to the fireplace mount idea?

it's going to mount above the fireplace (which is actually a gas insert, and, thus without a true chimney) in a cabinet that is about 16" deep. That's why I went with the table stand.

I didn't like EDTV.

But I'm not much of a Matthew McConnaughey fan, so maybe that's why.

The Truman Show was great, though.

Yeah. Like I said in your thread, it's wonderful. These guys were great to order from, too. Careful to read the instructions for receiving when they e-mail you. My first set came in cracked from shipping damage. I refused delivery. DTVcity had a replacement set shipped to me within two days. Big ups to them.
