Nor have I ever, aside from those shelf systems we all had in hs/college. At the moment, I have nothing to listen from at home aside from the actual speakers built into my laptop.

In my office I have some sweet jbl speakers that play over my iTunes router or whatever.

Anyway, I want to remedy this and need advice. I don't need or want some kind of fucking audio-nerd porn stereo, but I do want something good, a turntable, and the ability to play music wirelessly.

I'd like to spend less than $1k, and it either needs to be super fucking easy to set up, or Bloor has to come do it for me.

Fire away, please.

A few online resources:

Consumer Reports home stereo buying guide

http://hometheater.about.com/

Crutchfield

Outdoor Speakers

Overstock.com speakers

Or, just go on Ebay and get all Yamaha components (receiver, turntable, BluRay and speakers) and you'll be happy with the results.

I pretty much want someone to tell me "go buy this" -- I hate doing research ;)

I'm getting one of these to replace my ailing Marantz CD63 mkII KI Sig.

Image

As far as I can see it's just about the best thing in my price range at $499 apart from the Cambridge Audio player but I've always thought that Cambridge Audio equipment looks like a total fucking eyesore.

Only thing is when I looked at it in the shop I thought the disc tray looked a little on the flimsy side and I've heard a few stories of problems with the disc tray not opening or closing if you put stuff on top of the player but I think I'm just going to go for it.

I had a Nad about 15 years ago (predecessor of the Marantz) and it was a good little player.

Does it have to be wireless?

Once we went vinyl in the home, that's all we listen to now.

I'd get a good turntable, good speakers, good amp/preamp, and call it a day, but that's me, and that's based on how i want to spend the precious little time i have at home to listen to tunes.

Dude, you absolutely do not need to pay a lot of $ for a turntable. This one is low priced, great quality, and will suit your needs perfectly.

I have a receiver and cd player similar to these. You can probably get the two for around $500 total, and I use them all the time and can vouch for the quality.

Plus, you can easily mix and match pieces around these then as you add them. Just my 2 cents.

Ummm...it's worth $80. If nothing else, it will let you jack straight into your computer, if that's what you're wanting to do.

Powered speakers, eliminates the need for a separate amplifier/receiver, also can be used wireless if you want. May look pricey at first glance, but damned good- http://audioengineusa.com/Store/Audioengine-5#overview

Stream all your digital files wirelessly: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Squeezeb ... 942&sr=8-1

Either use this to transfer vinyl to digital, or plug it straight into the speakers above. Denon makes good shit- http://www.amazon.com/Denon-DP-200USB-A ... 324&sr=1-2

Yeah, the 80 dollar audio technica will do the job, you can always upgrade your cartridge.

I just thought he might want a direct drive over a belt drive since he probably won't want to change a belt someday.

$200 is pretty cheap for a direct drive.

I think it looks like tentoze has you hooked up for within your budget for good wireless sound and ability to stream. I would only maybe suggest to maybe upgrade the turntable a bit since you could do so and still stay under a grand. I've heard good things about this one:

For the money, the DP-300F is hard to beat- very good tt. Only reason I recommended the lesser model is its USB capabilities in ripping vinyl straight to a memory stick (even though 192 kbps is the top SQ).

I've barely had time to think. Maybe for Christmas.
