Stop thinking and just do it. Totally worth it.

I've liked BBJ albums before, but this is the first time that it sounds like he's taking his smartassery seriously. Quantum leap attained.

We don't have the same ears, so I can't really grasp what you're hearing that says he's taking it further than he has before. I'm guesing that the whole episode with his ma' almost dying really affected him.

I've actually been thinking about buying his two Bare Jr records. I know they're a little more 90s rock sounding, but I kind of want to go back and see how he's progressed.

I mean, I can't even go on to song 2 because I have to hear #1 again. NOW.

His previous albums have all had a ramshackle quality to them, as if songs were recorded in a reluctant rush between highballs. The arrangements on this one are much more thought-out and complex, and played like the individual parts all add up to a greater whole. That may be down to MMJ's participation, but I don't think it's just coincidental that the stronger emphasis on the backing appears on the same album as lyrical concerns that go beyond his smartass comfort zone. That's what I hear, anyway.

I've had that urge too, but I remember Bootay being big on bluster and small on melody and songs.

Are you not familiar with BBJ's work? Ironically, I think I was listening to Young Criminal's Starvation League in my truck when we went to dinner the other week.

While Young Criminals Starvation League is still the one I reach for most, the new record is on a bit of an upswing.
Bootay = a BBJ record I would not recommend.

And on a related note, the first 2 songs on this album murder the ppdd offerings in Dale's "Song of 2010" thread. Soooo fucking good.

Confirmed. The guitar solo/outro on the first song is nothing short of amazing and the second song is just such a fantastically fun few minutes.

I'm frankly scared to play this because y'all are hyping this like crazy. No way it can measure up.

i like it quite a bit, but would put it 2nd or 3rd in a ranking of his albums.

I haven't spent much time with it, but it certainly doesn't have the immediate effect that young criminal starvation league or from the end of your leash had.

I'll try to give it it's just due, but right now I'm not sure why this circle jerk went from a a Jenna Haze DP to a Sashae Gray gangbang.
