Your overlooked list looks way worse than the real nominations

Well, it's not my list. None of them should be on any list near the HoF.

HoF sucks! Burn the place down!!!

With the exception of Bon Jovi that list is surprisingly reasonable.

I refuse to even discuss the bullshit in your overlooked list.

Beastie Boys should be a shoo-in.

It would be pretty great if Kiss and Rush weren't inducted until the Bieber era or something.

With both Alice Cooper and Tom Waits on the official nomination list, I'm a-ok.

So remind me again of the impact that J Geils Band had over KISS? Personal preference is one thing, ignoring that they were a cultural phenomenon is something completely different.

You assume that "impact" is desirable or an important aspect of a rock'n'roll band. I disagree.

But if you want to discuss impact, please take your shmoo poll top 5 from last year and explain how they were affected by Kiss.

EDIT: I don't mean that as snotty as it reads but I'm too tired to spend time editing it.

I'm not sure the variable "cultural impact" should factor in.

Rads, can you help us understand why Chic would be more reasonable than any of the artists in the overlooked list?

Why wouldn't impact be an important aspect of a rock n' roll band? Without them, the more boisterous live shows wouldn't exist, and while I know we've discussed and debated this before--the live record wouldn't have been looked at in the same way had Alive not been a big it. It essentially became the staple of a RnR band's catalog.

Just wondering what the criteria should be then, if not impact? If you want numbers, then I believe their 24 gold records + 19 million records should be adequate.

My point is, ok, KISS is probably hokey to most people. I get that. But to shrug them off as some fad band that had absolutely no impact whatsoever on the landscape of rock music, well, I think you're being a bit naive. Also, to sit there and to draw parallels between the top 5 and KISS is to assume that every band that is popular must therefore draw reference back. I never said that. But I can draw reference from U2's 360 Tour to KISS's huge stage shows.

I'd also argue that the makeup is one of the most instantly recognizable icons in music of all-time. Go anywhere in the world, hold up a picture of KISS and people probably know it. Weak, sure--but worth noting.

These feel reasonable, but nothing to get excited about.

Doubtful I can help you understand, but for sentient humans Chic was a seminal group. They were the first to approach disco from a rock standpoint (Nile Rogers worshipped Mick Ronson), which in turn influenced a lot of what became known later as new wave. As well, their song "Good Times" was the basis of "Rapper's Delight", the significance of which should be apparent to even you.

You keep saying this but you're full of shit. Frampton Comes Alive was the template for the success of the live album. Kiss came along with theirs, typically, a year later.

I'm not about to say Kiss doesn't deserve to be in the hall of fame. They were pioneers of marketing, capable of building an empire on a lack of talent and inept songwriting. So good for them. Put them in. Just don't include Journey. Or the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Yr absolutely correct that FCA came out first, its just I've never heard any band say that they wanted to put out a live record because of FCA...Alive, on the other hand. There's no sense in picking this back up, because Lord knows, this has gone down this path before.

Nice that Tom Waits is being inducted.

Pretty awesome that Rush and Journey still haven't been inducted.
