back to the subject of maple syrup- someone wrote in to Dan Savage about not being able to get off without smelling maple syrup. I swear it wasn't me...

S/he seems more sincere than the original "how'd that happen?" letter-writers, but I still have to file this under fiction. It's about a step & an half above a group of seventh graders scouring the Urban Dictionary & writing a letter presenting one of those predilections as naturally-occurring.

How'd that happen!?

This is kinda funny. You should go back and read my status from last night...completely oblivious to this talk of maple syrup.

THE HONKY TONK

I'll just jump right in:

We started this thing off right with a batch of homemade onion rings, deep fried in cornbread batter. Ain't no state fair that can touch 'ese rangs...

Image

I found a block of Wisconsin brick cheese after two days of looking around. Apparently this is a Wisconsin thing, and most chain stores don't care to get hip. Shera thought this one was bland and left a bad aftertaste, but my opinion of it was palatable and along the lines of squishy provolone. Like maybe if provolone and velveeta mated and had a bastard cheese child.

Image

Recommended beer was a porter, so Shera picked up a sixer of Bad Elmer. Not her best choice, she admits, but she had two kids in the car and couldn't tote them inside the liquor store. An employee had to do the leg work. Named Elmer.

Image

Sided this with fresh sweet corn.

Image

(The tootchkins doin' a lil' juke joint shuffle for their victuals.)
Image

And there we have it...
Image

Beef patty, bibb lettuce, peppered pork, brick cheese, onion rings and bbq sauce on a sesame seed bun.

A little too much like meatloaf for my liking, likely due to the bbq sauce, onion and red meat flavor combo. Even though it was constructed well in a technical sense, I'd have to give this a score of:

Image and a half 1969 Mick Jaggers.

Damn toots, buy a grill so you don't have to boil that corn.

i agree with the 1.5 Mick Jaggers. this one was boring. the rings were a little too bready for me, the cheese tasted like moldy havarti, i had no butter for my corn, (and that's a necessity for me) and the beer was just OK. good thing the kids are cute and helped make cookies yesterday, otherwise i would have been mad like Wilford Brimley is about having the diabeetus.
