I just fell in love with that thing lately. it took me a while to figure it out, but it's fun to improve and come to different strategies to solve it.
I know that it's not really new, but now to its 30th birthday I thought I should purchase one finally. As a kid I only had this Magic thing, this plate with rings. Anyone else who spent some time with it in life?

world record is something about 8 sec...

this is just insane...

I bought one a few years back, after reminiscing about them. Mine doesn't move that smoothly as in that first video. Also, they have white ones?

on the official website they have a white DIY model, yes, but most of these 'speedcubers' use special cubes, for example this one.
my original rubik's cube was 10 € cheaper.

You have to take it apart and coat the pieces with Vaseline. Or at least that's what we did when I was a kid.

Nerds.

I could complete it as a kid, but I'm sure I couldn't now without sitting down with it for at least a few hours.

I had the Rubik's Link when I was a teenagers, plus a Cube, a 4 by 4 cube and a pyramid puzzle. I fiddled with them for hours at a time but I could never solve the damned things. Rubik's Link was fun just to fold and refold and make patterns with. I also had a Magic Snake that you could make different patterns out of. I still have the Snake, it's on my night stand for when I can't sleep!

I won the Rubik's Cube school wide competition when I was in 5th grade at private school. I would listen to shit like Motorhead and Black Sabbath while messing around with it at night. I beat out all of these dickhead 7th and 8th graders that thought they were going to school me. :-)

Yeah I remember the cube, the pyramid, and the snake. Getting two colors solved was like a major breakthrough for me.
