I don't know more than 3 songs by this band. Anyway, I'm looking for a song that's really good and also really rocking. Preferably something from late 80s to early 90s era? It being funky isn't necessary, though I wouldn't mind it. Just looking for the hardest/punkest song they have (that's good).

And also stuff from that same time period from other bands I might not know about, that have that early funk/rock/rap/metal fusion thing.

I suspect PopTodd will have a bunch of suggestions from their first three albums.

Also:
Faith No More - We Care a Lot, Surprise You're Dead, Caffeine
Ice-T/Bodycount - Bodycount, Cop Killer
Ice-T + Slayer - Disorder
Public Enemy + Anthrax - Bring the Noise

Colin is right. I used to be a huge RHCP fan back in the day.
My favorite is:
"Knock Me Down" (from Mother's Milk)
Rocks hard. Catchy. Represents everything that I liked about this band in the first place.
but then, so does:
"Taste the Pain" (also from Mother's Milk)
This one isn't as much rock, but more creepy, slow groove. Great bassline, of course.

Maybe earlier than you're asking for but how about True Men Don't Kill Coyotes, Fight Like A Brave or Catholic School Girls Rule.

For a band that did fused hardcore with funk in the early 80s, I'd say maybe White Nigger or I Got Soul by the Big Boys.

I'll second "Catholic School Girls Rule" and add a couple suggestions from my favorite album of theirs, Uplift Mofo Party Plan:

"Me and My Friends"

"No Chump Love Sucker"

And I've always liked that first 24-7 Spyz album for an album in a similar vein.

I also liked the "Special Secret Song Inside" despite its (or maybe because of?) its sophomoric content.

And for similar-type bands, you gotta go with FISHBONE.
"Party at Ground Zero"
"Bonin' In the Boneyard"
"Ugly"
"Lyin' Ass Bitch"

Just need to say that, in their prime, I do not think that there was a better live band than Fishbone.
Yes, THIS ENERGY was maintained for 2 hours or so...

So fucking great. :rawk:

Remember when Party At Ground Zero was in like every trailer when ska had its 3rd wave revival in the mid/late-90s?

Mr. Bloor already mentioned Infectious Grooves, but they're probably what yr looking for:

Damn, this reminded me of a part of my adolescence I thought I had left behind or basically repressed. After watching Vision Skate Escape I was a huge RHCP fan up until Red Hot Minute.

Freaky Styley (produced by George Clinton):
Jungle Man
Nevermind
Catholic School Girls Rule

Uplift Mofo Party Plan
Fight Like a Brave
Me and My Friends
Backwoods
No Chump Love Sucker
Walkin On Down the Road

Mother's Milk
Knock Me Down
Fire
Johnny Kick a Hole in the Sky

Blood Sugar Sex Magic
Suck My Kiss
Righteous & The Wicked

This exercise also reminded me that Urban Dance Squad used to exist ("Deeper Shade of Soul")

Just wow.

Nothing off the debut?

I love "Deeper Shade of Soul." Great tune.

Come to think of it, some of the stuff off a couple later Bad Brains albums would probably work too, maybe something off I Against I.

How do you feel about returning to the Source, and putting an old Parliament/Funkadelic tune on there?
