Stone,

Milwaukee:
Depending where you're staying in Milwaukee, the downtown's very walkable. If you're looking for German eats, then I'd suggest Mader's. Both Mader's & KR's are a little formal, and stuffy. If you're looking for something good to eat & fun, try Cubanita's Cuban restaurant on Milwaukee & Wisconsin Aves. Lakefront's also got a good Friday fish fry, but it's busy and it's a cab ride to north side (try brewery tour if you're early). 3rd Ward District go to Milwaukee Brewing Co and drink Louie's Demise. Cab ride to southside will take you to Bay View. Cool neighborhood. Sugar Maple, Centraal Station, Honeypie cafe... No visit to Milwaukee is complete without closing Wolski's Bar (also North side).

Madison:
As mentioned before, go to the Memorial Terrace during the afternoon for a quick beer, or ice cream (great view). Do a quick stroll of State St. If you really want the Sat. WI football game day experience, then head to Regent St. Gauntlet of bars w/ outdoor tvs etc -- lotta fun. The Depressen Haus is old, and boring. Head to the Capitol Square afterward, and try The Great Dane brewpub, Genna's, lots of new places.

Green Bay:
Coincidentally, I'm going to the Packers' game Sun. If you're not tailgating, then try one of the megabars around the stadium. It's also fun to walk around w/ a 12er, and take in the atmosphere. Kroll's across from the stadium serves great burgers!

p.s. The best frozen custard in southern WI is served at Leon's - 26th & Oklahoma in Milwaukee. Better than anyone's!

p.s.s. If you're returning to Milwaukee Sun. night, Chuck Prophet's playing at Shank Hall. Should be good.

Thanks for mentioning Honey Pie, mojo -- but I must respectfully disagree with your assertion about Leon's. In all honesty, I'd feel better recommending the soft-serve at the Boy Blue down the street from my old high-school.

Also: Wolski's is hardly north-side. It's around the corner from the Troc, which is perfectly East-side, off Brady; the heart, as it were, & largely remains, of Milwaukee's cool kids scene.

Last: a coupla gems not mentioned, in Riverwest -- West Bank Cafe (don't be fooled; the menu is Vietnamese) & Art Bar. & across the river, my favourite dive, Axel's. (Grab dinner at West Bank, drink on North Avenue & Oakland Avenue, close the nite (of alcohol) at Axel's, then go next door to Oakland Gyros for greasy, Grecian goodness.

Oh, & I think there's some kind of anniversary party for the Brew City Bruisers, possibly Saturday, at Turner Hall. Not my scene, but I don't think any other Obner is of accord with me, on that, so maybe hit that up.

BCB = roller derby. I know the Obner HIGVEG love that shit.

Burgers: Sobelmann's, on St. Paul Street, near the Marquette campus.

just saw this place on Food Wars last night. they lost to AJ Bombers, but both burgers looked great.

thanks again for all the suggestions y'all. i think we are armed with enough info to make a gameplan now.

oh, and can someone up there tell Aaron Rodgers to just stay out this week before Cameron Wake turns him into a vegetable?

If you're taking I-43 to GB, Solly's Grille on Port Washington Rd -- best burger! (better than Sobleman's...)

If you want the Wisconsin football experience, head down Regent and do beer bongs at 8 AM. I don't think it would be too easy to find parking, and get in and out of the Union on a game day (definitely a disaster area driving through that area). Also, Genna's and The Great Dane are where frumpy grad school pricks and I-still-think-I'm-in-college 40 year olds hang out, respectively.

Perfect night to be in Madison. Might even get some drunken beat-up college puss considering the circumstances. You're still a retard if you tried to go to the Union.

A great example of Wisconsin simply working harder than a nonchalant Southern turd.

I've been to Ohio, they have a drawl. They're part of the slow, retarded, if-I-can't-fuck-it-I-don't-care South.

And we win contracts, repeatedly.
..Simply by showing up on time.

I hope those retarded Jew Dolphins lose to the Puritanical Packers...
In relative terms, they should lose forever

The North will always win!

By the way...e-stone...i'm pretty sure you met my dad and Aunt before the game today. I was supposed to be at the game but couldn't fly in. So i'm talking to my dad after the game and he said he met a nice pair of Dolphins fans at Krolls before the game. Apparently both went Maryland and one of the guys is from Colorado....and went to the Badger game the night before.....could it be?

DHR -- that is nuts. i totally remember them. very nice people, as was just about everyone we came across on our trip. we were pretty much alone in Dolphins colors in a sea of green at Krolls when we met them. we were actually warmly welcomed by several people as we entered Lambeau, and even after the game, nothing but "congratulations" and "hope you enjoyed Lambeau" comments. classy fans. it seems as though as long as you are drinking and having a good time (and not being an asshole), you are welcome there.

I was very impressed with Milwaukee - a lot nicer than i had imagined. Wish we had more time to spend there. We were staying at the Aloft on Old World Third, so we spent most of our time around there. I would've liked to have seen some of the other areas/neighborhoods mentioned, as this area seemed a little cheesy - especially as the night wore on. Water Street Brewery was lame (as warned), had an incredible brat at the Milwaukee Brat House. i had previously believe a brat is a brat is a brat...but damn this was tasty. plus 2fer1 spotted cow. this was probably my favorite place we hit, and we ended up going back there after attempting some other bars around. my buddy wanted to watch the yankees game so we ended up somehow across the street at Buckhorn Exchange (or Saloon or something). it was early and kinda empty in there, and an incredibly gorgeous bartender, so we hung out and watched the yankees and drank more spotted cow until finally the place was jam packed with meatheads and slutty looking chicks. turns out Ronnie from Jersey Shore was making an "appearance" there. so we stuck around until he came out. dude is so fucking short. it was pretty funny, but the scene there was terrible. we ended up on a deck on the river at The Harp. more spotted cow. terrible conversation talking to some chick about "indie" music..."oh my god i LOVE EM GEE EM TEEEEEE". finally took off from there and went back to the Brat House. saw a couple fights on the street and then turned in. i think we probably didn't see the best of what Milwaukee had to offer, but a good time nonetheless.

Madison fucking rules. first off, i went to the university of maryland - a place where there was FOUR bars total for 40,000+ students. add to that a football team that no one cared about. so this was everything i dreamed that a college football town/atmosphere would be like. we were dropped off on one end of Regent Street and just took a few hours hitting all the tailgates as we worked our way into the stadium. what a sick atomsphere in there. serious goose bumps. we had a great perch just over and to the right of the student section and it was great to watch them througought the game. i had no idea why people where wearing those "Jump Around" shirts all day. the storming of the field was nuts - i'm sure a few kids spent the night in the ER after being trampeled. i guess we missed the "Fifth Quarter" though? oh well - some of the old people in our section seemed to be upset about that. the town was going off after that. we ended up at Dotty's Dowry and had a great burger there - and more spotted cow. would have loved to stay out and enjoy the revelry, but we wanted to be out the door and on the road to green bay by 7. the cab situation was not happening, and we ended up walking the mile and 1/2 back to our hotel.

the drive to green bay was beautiful. i blasted mmj's "it still moves" as the sun came up over the heartland and had one of those "moments" that makes you love an album even more. tailgating was great, lambeau was great although honestly a little bit of a let down - perhaps after the atmosphere of camp randall the night before coupled with the packer fans being a bit down due to all their injuries? either way, a great game and good to come out with a W of course.

and mojo, for the record: kroll's butter burger >>>>>> solly's!

Nice nice NIIIICE. I'm so glad to read that - I love it when my adopted home town treats people well. Also glad you drank my share of Spotted Cow. Still the best all day session beer I've ever had. Camp Randall is indeed a moving experience. Not better or worse than seeing a game at Georgia, but different.

Sounds like it was great trip. My dad seemed pretty excited when i told him that i probably knew (internet know) the "real nice dolphins" fans he met. Everytime i go back to Green Bay to visit my family i have to get a Krolls Butter burger...so damn good.

Stone, Good to hear that all went well. Too bad you didn't get to the cooler parts of Milwaukee. Were you at Buck Bradley's on Old 3rd -- longest bar east of the Miss? Glad you experienced Madison correctly, and, no, you weren't off w/ your remark about Green Bay being down that day. While a beautiful day for tailgating, Packers fans are the real deal and know the reality of a mediocre product on the field.
