German opinion of the Turkish immigrants is roughly equivalent to that of Americans regarding those who cross our borders from the south. The main difference in my mind is the Germans did it to themselves, bringing in droves of Turks to augment the native labor force during the economic boom years. When times get tough, "everybody's got to have somebody to look down on." This was the comparison made to me by my host a couple years ago while riding through a small town about 60 kilometers outside of Dusseldorf. Turkish flags were flying EVERYWHERE, and Rainer explained that only about 30% bothered to learn German.

& something like 0% could ever hope to become German citizens.

Meanwhile, the non-speakers of German from Siberia moved west & within a day were travelling on German, i.e. EU, passports.
