there sound is across the board and has changed over their releases...getting more and more acoustic based black metal with each release...I'd say they are somewhat like Anathema and the transition in sound they went through, or even My Dying Bride...i wouldnt say they are clones of either band, but they're in the same ball park...

and it's been a while since i let loose a 'rope' about these guys but, Wolves in the Throne Room are the best metal band out there today , period.

Autopsy are one of my all time favs. Ugly and just raw as fuck, the way Death Metal should be.

Mental Funeral is hailed as one of the most important releases in the genre with good reason. A lot of bands heard it and went "what the fuck is thiiiis???", then going on to form their own bands.

Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier



The Final Frontier is British heavy metal band Iron Maiden's fifteenth studio album, released on August 13, 2010 in Germany and Finland and August 16 worldwide. At 76 minutes and 34 seconds, it is the band's longest studio album to date. It is their first album since the release of A Matter of Life and Death in 2006, the longest gap to date between two consecutive Iron Maiden studio albums. The North American leg of their tour in support of the album started in Dallas, Texas on June 9, with a European tour beginning in Dublin on July 30, an Australian tour beginning in Melbourne on February 23, 2011, and further dates to be announced.Melvyn Grant, a long-time contributor to the band's artwork, created the cover art for the album.

Lots of good stuff coming up. I haven't got them yet, but I just ordered the new Kylesa and the new Withered. Pre-ordered Agalloch. I'm predicting a strong finish for the year in metal.

melancholic black metal with quite a broad spectrum of sounds. on the one hand there are these relaxed and cocktail-bar jazzy moments, with a dominant bass guitar. on the other hand there are some infernal blast-beat passages, black metal style screaming and guitars with endless reverb. shoegaze or whatever you call that. it's not too technical but the groovy parts are well delivered. actually it reminded me instantly in this EP which twilight kid once posted, although I like the screaming here much more.

to be honest, it hasn't blown me away yet, but it sucks you in. which turns out to be something like the opposite possiblility to stay in your mind, I guess. usually, my major critique for this kind of metal is the kind of simple (or weak) work on actual songwriting. there is nothing really surprising in the music, but I'm okay when those guys do it for the atmosphere. by the way, I read that this is a german band. let me know, what you think about it.

can someone post the kylesa album?

I like that Ghost album, but all the Mercyful Fate comparisons kind of annoy me. The guitar sound is a bit anemic. The overall vibe is good, but that guitar player is no Hank Shermann.

i think the comparison to MF is more in slight influences. i can definitely hear it.
