Same here. NBC tweaked the premier, as the one I downloaded a while back had some different segments in it. It was not significantly different, but it did help a little. This first ep is awkward because of all the jokes that came straight out of the original.

The show seems a lot more acted out than the BBC version, which was very natural. I guess I can get over that, eventually.

That's one of my bigger problems with it, that instead of these people seeming to be real, we're obviously watching sitcom characters. And, sadly, I think Steve Carell was a very wrong decision for the boss character. He's far too much of a slapstick-y, obvious type of humor actor than what is needed for that role. I think they should have stuck with relative unknowns for everyone.

The next episode appears to be where the long clip that's on Myspace is from, and it looks to be much, much better.

I liked how Carell played the character as purposefully oblivious to negative perception instead of just stupid-clueless. He gave the impression that he's terrified of admitting what a loser he is and acts doubly ridiculous as a way of not dealing with it. Like Dork Quixote tilting at paper mils, as it were.

He was more aware of his surroundings and perception when the matter of practical jokes came up, and his enforced camaraderie was less imposed.

He's not going to play the guy as an American Brent, which should be interesting once the character settles in.

I really liked the Pam character, too. Have worked with many of them.

I disagree completely that Carell is an "obvious kind of humor actor."

Many of his facial expressions were fantastic. He wasn't just hamming it up. He was able to convey that he's vaguely aware everyone hates him, which makes him behave even worse. I think he's going to play the character like a psychological train crash about to happen, but not until he's driven everyone nuts with his fake control.

the success of the office depends entirely on the natural feel, which the performances are almost fully responsible for. the performances in the american version are horrible. also the pace is all fucked up and everything feels rushed.

also, there is nothing to capture the labor of love feel that exists from the show being the star's creative vision every step of the way from creation to execution. i know some people who work on the show and they can't understand why it would be remade. i think that shows.

Or we could just judge the show on its own merits, rather than expect it to be Gervais Pt 2, which it can't be.

I don't think the performances were horrible at all and if the original hadn't been one of the greatest shows ever made, people would be praising this one and saying how glad they are that NBC is putting on a show this good.

The first episode was a remake of the british versions pilot. So obviously it's going to be the same.

Starting with the next episode they have a whole new storyline (apparently).

The people who say that you don't feel any sympathy for the Brent character....it's been one episode. After the first office episode i didn't feel any sympathy whatsoever for his character. It took time for his character to be revealed. One episode isn't going to make that happen.

Get with it people.

Isn't the Diversity Day episode taken from the original? It might have had to do with sexual harassment, though, I don't remember.

It's different. None of the jokes are the same from what i can tell. I don't remember a sexual harassment episode of the office. I'll have to browse through them to verify.

Well, I might be remembering it wrong, and just tying in this episode with various separate jokes from the original series.

my only hope is that the "tim" character plays it with the same playfulness. his look over at the camera with the "can you believe this shit" expression on his face was one of my favorite things about the original.

i have to say that i felt that awkwardness and the urge to turn away rather than watch the boss acutely. it was good.

I watched this past Tuesday's episode today and fucking loved it. I haven't watched the original series, but I'm definitely watching this bitch from now on. So awesome.

apparently the ratings for the latest episode were god awful by comparison to the other networks. i don't think we'll be seeing it for much longer.

"Sorry"

"No. Seriously. This is a place of welcoming, so get the hell outta here"

I haven't laughed so hard at a television diolague in ages.

I thought it was quite funny. Although episode-this-last-tuesday was the first one I saw. I only saw two episodes of the original so I am fresh meat when it comes to The Office experience.
