Don't remember anyplace I ate there that was particularly good outside a couple taco stands I don't know the names of, but I will suggest hitting the Double Down Saloon, the Pinball Hall of Fame and the Neon Graveyard.

i ate at a place at the bottom of Mandalay Bay...can't remember the name of it (it was someone's name), but it was a kinda pricey seafood joint. i had a dessert called a Fat Elvis, which was a banana dipped in chocolate/peanut sauce, deep fried in a wonton wrapper, and somewhere bacon was involved.

i started sweating

a hearty "hell yes" in agreement here. the Hen of the Woods mushrooms will change your life.

I can also personally vouch for this place. Great burgers, and not terribly expensive.

i haven't been there in over 15 years but the buffet at caesar's palace was pretty good.

Never really had a knock out meal in Vegas. Had some horribly over-rated dinners with customers at Emeril's and Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay's joint). Actually Emeril's Delmonico steak place was okay.

The problem is that the cream of the crop type joints are just ridiculously overpriced (like everything at any high end casino). I looked at a few prix fixe menus at some of the nicer joints and with drinks it was going to be over $200 a person. Hell, some of them might even be worth it but it's just that so many of them want to compete at the best's price point and they just aren't that good.

Eat at a mid-range place and spend your money of high end booze, women, etc.

Del Frisco's on Paradise. Steaks & seafood like The Rat pack used to eat. Pricey. Thank me later.

Lotus Of Siam, in a dumpy strip mall on Sahara. Nothing at all for ambience ( a dump actually), but worldwide (literally) renown for some of the finest Thai food anywhere outside Bangkok. Be careful ordering anything on a heat level above 5.

Nascar Cafe serves shit sandwiches (hold the mayo). The Burger Bar is excellent, and actually fairly reasonably priced.

Go to the corner of Paradise and Sahara- on one corner is a Carl Jr's. Catty-corner from that is a gas station and behind the gas station along Paradise is a tiny little dump of a taqueria- the folks behind the counter MIGHT speak a little English these days. There's enough tables to seat maybe 8 people total. Eat till you explode for less than 10 bucks.

But be very, very careful in Spearmint Rhino- those ladies that seem to be just being cordial have the meter running at all times. Just a passing hello will show up on your tab. And that tab can get astronomical from what you THINK is innocuous behavior, and the enforcers of said tab can get very ugly when you recover from the shock and balk at ponying up. And don't ask how I know this.

We ate at Emeril's new orleans Fish House in the MGM Grand. Expensive. And you'd think when you're paying SOOO much for a meal, you'll walk away stuffed, or at least satisfied. We walked out of Emeril's and walked STRAIGHT to the Rain forest cafe for wings and burgers.

Eating in Vegas is tricky. Almost everywhere we went seemed overpriced. Next time I go I'll do a little more research about where to eat.

A friend of mine went and paid $30 a day for a buffet wrist band. The wristband got him into 7 different buffets at 7 different buffets at a bunch of the major hotels. The wristband lasts for 24 hours, so $30 covers all breakfasts, lunches and dinners, as well as anytime you just wanna snack. I'm going to go that route for a bachelor party in vegas this march.

according to this blog you can get a 24 hour pass at any of the participating hotel buffets:

I'm reading a range of prices for the pass ($45, $39, $34 and $29) so I don't know what one is the current one.

Dude, thanks. I was planning on doing the buffet thing a couple times, and this makes it a much better deal. Most of those buffet dinner prices are $22-$30 range anyway!
