Hey Bobbo -

By Steak Shapiro

1. That Reggie Bush sometimes gets overlooked because he in not an every-down back, but is a huge and incredibly important part of the what the Saints are trying to do every week. Without him, the Saints' offense has become rather ordinary.

2. That Mark Sanchez is still capable of the kind of day that could lose you a football game in the postseason.

3. That there has never been a worse day-to-day leader than Wade Phillips.

4. That Rich McKay made one of the greatest decisions in Falcons history when he drafted Roddy White with the 27th pick in 2005.

5. That Bill Belichick, who is his own offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, is simply the finest coach in the sport.

6. That Adrian Petersen is overrated.

7. That Sam Bradford is one of the easiest people in the league to root for.

8. That Al Davis, dare I say, may have known what he was doing when he chose to stick with Tom Cable.

9. That no one really pays attention to the Miami Dolphins, and I am not exactly sure why.

10. That watching Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco lose almost every week is kind of fun.

11. That the combination of the Buffalo Bills and Chan Gailey was never going to be a winning one.

12. That there is absolutely no reason in the world to not be happy for the Kansas City Chiefs' fanbase.

13. That Norv Turner no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt.

14. That a good hot and sour soup is one of life's miniature pleasures (sorry, but I needed to get at least one in).

15. That the whole world takes Peyton Manning's greatness for granted.

16. That Cris Collinsworth keeps getting better and better in the booth.

17. That Jamie Dukes is a handsome man.

18. That Jon Gruden is going to have to take that massive ego to Dallas.

19. That Eli Manning is one of the most unique and least talked about big stars in New York sports history.

20. That the Falcons could be hosting two playoff games, and that makes me really, really excited ...

How do you guys feel about that? (the potential for Gruden to be your coach)

I either want a hungry former HC who has a chip on his shoulder after feeling he's been blackballed by the league (Gruden, Billick, Fassel) or a hungry hot assistant who has a chip on his shoulder after feeling he's been wrongly passed over for numerous other vacancies (Frazier, Fewell, Rivera).

I used to desperately want Cowher here, but I think he's probably gotten (figuratively) fat and happy since he voluntarily left coaching, and probably wouldn't have the same fire when/if he returns. Peter King keeps trying to hard sell John Fox, but he's already Wade-ed the Panthers to death, so NO.

Ultimately, it really doesn't matter who becomes coach, because this thing won't ever be completely fixed until Jerry dies.

Adrian Peterson is being wasted in an Andy Reid mentored offense. Running is an afterthought.

It's such a fucking crap shoot whichever way you go.

FWIW, I'm not a fan of Gruden at all. I feel like with a guy like that, who did a GREAT job in Oakland, then won a Super Bowl with Tony Dungy's players in Tampa after which he basically did nothing besides act like he was smarter than everybody else, sign 12 QB's every year (none of whom ever worked out), and never win another playoff game in six subsequent seasons, there may not be a whole lot there at this point (especially if you give him something like a 5 year $50 million contract.)

Gruden never wins a SB without the kindness of Andy Reid and company.
of all the "how the fuck did we just lose that game" NFC Championship collapses the Tampa Bay ranks by far the highest.

They only scored ten points, didn't score in the second half and committed three turnovers. I'd say they got beat by a better team and on their home field no less.

in contrast to my post from an hour ago, the Eagles lost because they were out coached. It was a solid TB defense, but the Eagles were so absurdly conservative all day. thinking about this game still makes me so angry.

Billick would be interesting, but I can't see his and JJ's personalities fitting. FWIW, I really believe he'd still be the Ravens' coach if it wasn't for his incessant support of Kyle Boller, and his inability to give up control of the offense after firing Fassel. He was a powerfreak.

Reading the article about Moss going to the Titans, I thought this was an interesting tidbit:

Quote:
Concerned about Moss' characer in 1998, Tennessee, then the Oilers, drafted Kevin Dyson with the 16th pick overall.

Whoops.

I'm a little nervous about Big Josh Freeman and the Suddenly Relevant Bucs coming in to the Dome today.

Me too.

I have the Falcs in my suicide pool this week. I've already used a couple of the more obvious teams so I have to go with Atlanta. I've got a $4000.00 prize riding on them--they better win.

This game is killing me. We are fucking around and keep letting Tampa back in it.

Our special teams coverage has been awful.

Hell yeah.

I can't pick an easy win. I had KC over Buffalo last week which they pulled out on the last play of OT.

Nice W ATL.

Ndamukong Suh, the NFL's biggest Kicker.
Too bad he missed it. The injury to their starting kicker really cost them a win over the Jets.
He came pretty damn close to hitting it, and showed that he still has some of those soccer skills left from his childhood.

The bigger story from that Lions game is that Stafford went down again.

Kid is just snake bit at this point.

And I just got him off waivers for my fantasy team and started him this week. Got me 24 pts. before he went down.

I knew the league had a soft spot for Peyton, and that the Colts seemed to get the occasional benefit of the doubt with the refs. However, since the Eagles rarely play them, I didn't know what it was like to root against them directly. I would have been furious if the Eagles didn't pull off that game. So many ridiculous calls against the Eagles, I don't even know where to begin.
