Every other day as well unless I've got some place important to be.

I have to shave everyday for my job because I'm so manly and I hate it. I skip for "casual Friday" on occasion and usually only shave once on the weekends so it turns out to 5-6 times per week.

The main reason I switched to a safety razor was cost. Mach3 blades run about $2-2.50 each and I just bought 100 double-edged razors for $22.

Does it not tear your face up? I find that if I don't shave for 2 days or more, it feels like I am ripping the hairs off my face - even with a Big Gay Routine ala Dalen's.

That's one of the main reasons I make sure to shave over the weekend at least once. I can go one day without shaving but if I go two (like I did this weekend), I end up with razor burn and noticeable nicks (like I have today). I think the classic shave thing takes a pretty rigid routine and more time each day than Mach3/Fusion shaving which is the downside to saving money and pretending you're Don Draper.

i shave and then just let my beard grow back in for a few weeks, until i get sick of it. then repeat.

i use this but gillette discontinued it so i bought a bunch before they did. i'm down to my last tube now. i like it because you can actually see where you're shaving instead of having a bunch of foam all over your face. probably gonna have to find something else when it runs out.

I have a beard now, but my normal routine when I do shave, and I only shave once a week, is a Shick Quattro with Aveeno Therapeutic Shave Gel and follow up with Origins Firefighter after-shave. I get irritated along my neck line if I don't use the Origins stuff.

I have pretty much the same routine as andyfest except that I don't usually shave on the weekends. But I'm a halfsie asian, so I don't have to worry about tearing up my face too much since I guess I have thin beard hairs. I also don't have to replace my Fusion razorblades too often - I usually go 3-4 weeks before replacing one of them.

My dad still uses this. When I started shaving, by default this was in my kit. I just remember it burning even before the razor hit my face.

All you guys complaining about those expensive replacement blades, just dry them off with air or by using rubbing alcohol. Dulling stems from rusting/oxidization.

Or just use pre shave oil. You get a better shave and dont have to perform the, let's face it, totally degrading task of drying a miniature razor blade

I already have a towel, fan and alcohol. No need to buy a $20 bottle of shave oil

Krauth wins this argument. I guess I'll peep some pre shave oil.

I don't know doodly about the efficacy of drying a razor blade, or soaking it in some sort of oil in extending its useful life- certainly couldn't hurt anything, I guess, and wouldn't cost much.

What I do think I know is this:

Modern razor blades are made of stainless steel.
Stainless steel doesn't rust. In certain harsh environments, there can be some surface corrosion over time.
Stainless steel is harder than woodpecker teeth.
The nastiest tap water in the world isn't very hard.
Somebody's going to have to show me some hard scientific evidence to convince me that tap water (along with ANYTHING one would ordinarily mix it with while shaving) causes "flakes" to fall off a stainless steel razor blade.

I remember Clark Howard talking about this contraption a couple years ago. The Razor Pro for drying your razor.

Ya, it has been proven that the whole 'rusting' thing is a myth. 'Dulling' is a myth too (as if your facial hair will dull a razor)

The issue is blade alignment. If you 'strop' the razor (ie move it against something like leather or denim in the opposite direction) it will reset it.

oh YEAH? Well fuck all ya'll mufuh's. All I know is that after using a Quattro blade more than 5 times it doesn't smoothly shave my whiskers, nicks me and I usually get more razor burn/infected hair follicles. So to prevent that, I'm gonna keep on using alcohol to dry off the blade.

I shave in the shower with no mirror every 2 or 3 days using a cheap recycled plastic (of course) disposable. If I'm the only one using it (aka, my wife isn't shaving her legs in my shower) then it lasts for a few months.

How anyone can use a disposable razor is beyond me. Shit hurts.

I've got the profusion gillette razor. I use Everday Jack shaving cream and after shave cream. Shave every weekday.

If it did hurt, I wouldn't use it. I'm not asking much of a razor.

Are disposable razors more green?

Squirgg, even being 14 years old, you probably still have more of a beard than I do, and if a woman shaved her legs with my razor, she'd be known as Stubby from then on.

I got one of those Art of Shaving kits and did the whole process till it was all used up. I sort of enjoyed the ritual, but I can't say I got a distinctly better shave. And then I started rocking the beard again full time, so I wasn't about to pre-oil, lather, and after-shave the 4 square inches of face I was actually shaving daily. Now I just use this stuff -- it lasts forever and it doesn't smell like your grandpa:
