gruyere, beef, carmelized onions, bacon, onion rings, garlic mayo, toasted onion roll

this one's not too over the top, but we are getting a little tired of the onion rings. and it didn't really occur to me until i typed the ingredient list out just now that onions seem to be a major theme in this one. expecting some stank breff...

As someone who's allergic to onions looking at this made me feel ill for a few seconds. Still can't wait to read the review though.

thee roadhouse

<shine a light>

six days on the road. six stolen rides in. six dollars to our name. i knew we'd made it as soon as we smelled the warm salt in the air and heard the gulls bleating overhead.

our only stop since the desert was The Ranch Hand, another midnight highway graveyard with sputtering halogens and the eternal lingering ghosts of diesel.

the waitress brought us our last meal with paris lips and sullen eyes and left us alone with our four-dollar wine to inhale pall malls against the doorway of the kitchen. we drank to the bottom of the paper sack and then drove til the tires were wet with the pacific.

this is where we'll be till they find us.

Score
ImageImageImageImage out of five shitty bar bands no one is listening to so why don't they take a break for fuck's sake. I burnt the carmelized onions a bit, but was able to turn it into a happy accident by adding a little white wine and brown sugar. All things considered, it wasnt' quite the onion overload I expected and was quite tasty, although truthfully it did make my kitchen smell like a busy Goodwill.

this thread is turning the corner from must-read to transcendent. Fine work, toots and Shera. That's some fine-looking beef.

good god...finally a burger worth eating! tonight's burger was delicious. the combo of meats, the wilted spinach, the fresh and clean tasting bread, and the gouda cheese all made for a delicious change from the greasy gut bombs of burgers past. i'm still tired of burgers, and probably won't eat another for about 30 weeks after this thing is done, but this one was yummy.

as for the sheboygan...someone shoot me now.

I'm just glad to see Shera is back to putting the meat in her mouth. And I'm sure Toots is too.

<blow me>

behold

THE BOHEMIAN - one of our better-shaped burgers. Hotcha!
Image

We paired this savory construction with a Magic Hat #9 because we had some left over from Shera's sister's (Madame Razz) birthday party.

The Verdict
I believe Shera liked this one more than I did. And it was admittedly lighter and less...death-defying...than some of the previous ones, but to me it was nothing too terribly memorable and left me with the same regretful wake-up-in-the-morning-hungover-next-to-a-stranger-wearing-my-shirt feeling as all the others. In hindsight, there were some externalities that were possibly affecting my perspective then. Namely, two kids who decided to flip the fuck out at the same time.

Score: (I'll defer to Shera's take...)
out of 5 versions of On Green Dolphin Street.

this marks the halfway point in our experiment. so far no major weight gain, but shera's sensitive guts are in the throes of a coup d'etat. we've employed some modifications over the last few (i.e. sprouted bread, lettuce wraps, yogurt cheese) so she can continue.

:cheers:

That looks like it would be a pretty decent sandwich minus the patty.

Five Guys opened here last week and I made it in today. It was about the best fast food burger I've ever had. They need to offer a smaller order of fries though. I couldn't eat half of them, especially after downing a double bacon cheeseburger.

last time i went i thought maybe getting the jr burger (single patty) would give me enough room to finish the meal but there was still a shit ton of fries left.
