In the book, Rick's finding his wife and son led immediately into an intensified conflict between him and Shane which then set the story in a new direction.

In the Entertainment Weekly cover story on the show, they hint that this will come up in Season 2. I think the small episode number of this season kept them from diving into it.

I'm enjoying the show, even if it isn't the greatest.

Solid gore scene there with the pick axe where the woman who got beat up by her husband drives it into his head a FEW times. I actually said to FemDerris, "I can't believe they're showing this................and again".

When this happened, I thought about Dusk Till Dawn, because I read somewhere a while back that they decided to make the vampire blood green to keep the gore down and preserve an R rating.

speaking of that cover story, i think this needs to get dropped into the thread:

Quote:
I like that we are diverging from the comic book here and there. For anyone that that terrifies, all I would say is, "We’re always going back onto the path." Frank [Darabont] has always maintained that the comic book is a path but we’re not stuck on it. If a story idea comes up, we’ll leave the path for an episode or two, but we’ll always come back to it. I’m sure there are going to be some people out there that are like, "The CDC? What the heck? This isn’t in my comic book. This is no good!" And all I would say to those people is, "Calm down."

actually, that should probably be applied to every discussion where one form of entertainment is based on another.

In the case of this show the problem isn't just that some things aren't in the comic. It's that they're lame. The old folk's home, the crazy racist guy, wife beatin' Ed, and the super-cliched and unrealistic "CDC" + lone surviving scientist. These things just don't seem to add much to the story laid out in the comic.

But as I said before, I don't really have that much of a problem with the idea of them going to the CDC and discovering the cause this early on. Kind of gets that out of the way. It just hasn't been very well executed or envisioned so far.

I haven't watched it yet. I started it but my wife hates it and objected. Even though I think the show is not very good, I still feel compelled to watch it in hopes that it develops into good television. I'll probably watch one day this week when my wife is not around.

I would have never watched it if The Broad didn't DVR it, since I'm not a comics nor zombie guy. I actually enjoyed the first episode. Each one just got progressively worse though, and now she has more or less lost interest.

Exact same, but we stopped after Ep 3.

The cliched shower scene(s) were painful to watch. They really do need to step up the quality of this show. I'm going to keep watching (when/if season 2 happens) for the schadenfreude aspect.

there is no question in my mind that the scientist saw Shane's gropiness on the CCTV and whispered that to Rick before the explosion. I would assume this means it'll boil to a head in the first few eps of next season, but seeing how this has carried out so far, they might try to make a season of it.

i don't think he needed to see the gropiness since he had more conclusive proof along the same lines.
