R. Kelly/mainstream R&B and hip hop is totally cool with the indie/hipster crowd, bort.

I'm not a fan, but that performance on Fallon was 90% amazing for all the right reasons (and 10% amazing for all the wrong ones).

I lost my indie cred on this board when a Ben Folds album made my year-end top 20. It's nice to finally have some company.

I'm not making that up. She doesn't care for music much. If I get in the car after she's driven it, the radio is turned off. But she loves her some "Remix to Ignition." I could probably play her the entire top 20 right now, and she wouldn't know a song.

The whole album is supposed to be Motown-inspired.

He's nailed it. I've never listened to him before, but I might have to grab this.

mine owns like three. a Colin Raye Christmas CD, Boys II Men, and some Disco comp. I would wager she has never bought a cd or dvd for herself.

I don't understand how you can marry someone who doesn't get music. I fell for my partner (of over 15 years) during our second date over a discussion on the relative merits of the guitar tones of Brian May and Mick Ronson.

And soul (as opposed to rap/hip hop) music is very indie now. Two that I've enjoyed this year:

Bilal - who deconstructs r&b.

As opposed to John Legend who tried to reconstruct 70's soul.

To be fair, I own probably 3000-ish records & you could say the same thing about me.
