It seems that a lot of the older CMJ posters (Mojo, Billyg, Blotter) aren't posting much, if at all, these days and I was wondering what the main reason for that is.

The reason I ask is because I'm concerned that people are leaving and finding this board dispensable due it's lack of music threads. Speaking to a few people in the past few weeks, thru E-mail, they all expressed concern that the board is becoming more and more like Hipinion every day, and straying away from the music thread.

I was wondering if we can somehow add a forum exclusive to music threads so people who aren't interested in other topics can post. And still keep this forum for non-music related topics.

I know this has been brought up before and nothing has been done about it but I personally miss posters like Velouria, Mojo, Neuroboy and others.

For those who don't post on here as much as they used to on CMJ, could you please tell us why?

Some of the posters are perfectly capable of STILL posting on CMJ, but don't, so I don't think the problem is content.

If we had a forum that was only for music, I'd still post whatever I wanted to in it, anyway.

I blame Canada.

Specifically, Winnipeg.

But don't you think that's a bit of a selfish attitude? If a music only thread can bring people back who want to post about music, why would do anything to discourage that?

Why segregate? Why can't we live as one?

Will having a seperate music forum make people post more bout music? Personally, i don't think so...

Maybe its cause, we have been such a tight knit group, we have exhausted most of the bigger music topics that come up, and only when next bands come about, does it spark enoug of us to create more threads....

i have no idea......its friday, and im babbling

If people want to post about music, they can start threads about music. We have threads about music every day. Every day.

Yeah, this is what I meant....

A seperate forum doesn automatically mean people will make music posts.

i agree. i basically read what i want to read and don't read what i don't want to.

i still think there's a decent amount of music talk around here. and sometimes, it's nice to just be silly and post about random stuff.

Also, over 50% of the topics on the front page are music related.

I like the one-big-forum for music & non music stuff as well...

there are literally only a handful of people on this board that actually post worthwhile music info.

I'm not placing blame on anyone so I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish with your post. There are times for fun and games and there are times for people to be a bit more sympathetic and try to fix something that may be broken. People are not finding this forum as enticing as they used to, and I'm just wondering why? You're sarcasm isn't appreciated.

I understand why people like music forums separate from discussions ones. Different personalities like things delineated in different ways.

But many boards actual music-specific forums are like ghost towns while the actual music talk still winds up in genral discussion. It would have to be enforced in order to work and enforcing things here isn't kind of a drag, isn't it?

Do we want a board like many TV show and artists forums where all non-applicable threads are moved by moderators? I've sesen some boards where every tenth thread is closed ad has a "moved to * forum" moderator message in it.

Just wondering if it would work at all.

I blame myself. Actually Chris, I blame you. Why the fuck do you have to over-analyze everything? I mean, you seem like a nice enough person, but sometimes..........

And what of the NEW people on this board not from CMJ?

I want you to go to CMJ right now and start a music thread. Then, go buy yourself some cock this weekend.

Go ahead, I dare you.

I mostly post about older bands.
Because I'm an old guy who's first (and almost all-consuming) responsibility is to his wife and children. So I'm here to HEAR about the new stuff, not be a bell-ringer.

Hopefully people feel that my contributions (both regarding music and other topics) are worthwhile.

And yeah, I'll lay the occasional "fart joke" on y'all. So what?
:P

As for the "people are not finding enticing" thing, we''ve got nearly 400 members and the pages fill up every day. Chase is right. Things happen. People move on to other things.
