Yeah, he tried to make a playoff happen, it was the Rose Bowl conferences that balked.

There's was a great article somewhere a couple years ago. Basically, the gist was SEC was new money to the Pac-10/Big -10's old money and that the Pac-10/Big-10 resented the SEC's assent to the top of the football world. And that was part of the power struggle over a play-off system.

Did anybody catch ESPN Outside the Lines yesterday about "Oversigning"? I'm normally not a fan of ESPN agenda based reporting but the NCAA really needs to take a stronger stance on the 85/25 rule. They highlight Les Miles cutting the QB Garrett, Huston Nutt signing 37 players, and Randy Shannon dumping a scholarship player to make room for a previous USC commit. The Wall Street Journal recently had an article on Nick Saban and Alabama revoking scholarships on "iffy" medical reasons. These kids are the ones who pay the price.

I know the Big 10 has a strict policy against oversigning, Bobby Dodd while at GT was pretty vocal about it, and Georgia fans , help me out here, aren't y'all questioning the practice (particularly in the SEC West).

Total bullshit about Les and Garrett. That kid refused to work. He transferred to a Division II school this past year and was 3rd string. Had little to do with oversigning. Very irresponsible reporting.

I didn't see it but it's certainly been an issue. The problem is that head coaches these days have to be inventory managers as well as coaches and take into account attrition with players. They have no idea what players are going to be academically ineligible, have career ending injuries, transfer, etc, etc, etc. It's pretty much a loophole in NCAA rules and it's not illegal. Like I said, I didn't see it but the question regarding the practice is usually an ethical question. I'm sure they cited Miles, Nutt, and Saban because they've been pretty aggressive with the practice with the biggest being Saban.

I know Richt has been pretty vocal about not doing it but the down side of not doing it is losing players and just having walk ons fill in. UGA was down to 80 scholarship players last year at one point. That's just shy of basically being on probation.

I'm pretty torn on it. Part of me thinks the student-athlete should come first and the other says that this is just the cost of competing in the SEC.

Nutt signs like 40 every year. I don't think Miles is that aggressive with it. He usually signs a couple over the limit. That's not be being a homer. I follow recruiting closer than I'd like to admit. Like I said, the Garrett issue was related to other things.

Last year, was weird because everyone in LSU's class qualified. First time that's happened since I've been following recruiting (going back to 01'). Miles said it was the first time that's happened since he's been coaching. So he offered Eliot Porter a "grey-shirt" to enroll in the fall, which he balked on and went to Kentucky. That class had 25 signees, which isn't crazy. Do you want to penalize coaches for signing smart kids who can qualify? Not sure what the answer is there.

Shit happens. But ESPN didn't report any of that in the story. And the timing of the story close to signing day when lots of kids are making decisions is irresponsible. ESPN kind of singled out LSU for a common practice and didn't provide any of the circumstances surrounding the incidents.

I stopped watching the game at halftime so I could get some sleep for work and due to tonights festivities. I'm glad I missed the safety and the piss poor offensive play the rest of the night.
I'm getting real sick of missing the first few minutes of a game due to overlapping coverage on ESPN. They need to plan that shit better if they are going to broadcast every bowl game. They also shouldn't start any bowl games after 8pm EST.

I really hope Nebraska gets a new O-coordinator before next season. They need more offensive consistency and cohesive play if they are going to be successful in the Big Ten. The Big XII is really sucking ass in its final year of existence.

I was very pleasantly suprised with Washington's defensive effort last night. A complete 180 from the game in Seattle three months ago. They were also able to run the ball, putting up 260+ yards on the ground while holding NU to 90.

Sarkisian has done an amazing job turning this program around from their 0-12 season under Willingham two years ago. Looking forward to next year already--I'll be at the UW/NU game in Lincoln on 9/17/11.

I don't really get wrapped up in the whole conference rivalry thing, but man, rough day for the Big 10.

The Rose Bowl was a great game though. The Badgers controlled the ball in the second half but couldn't get it done in the end...they managed the game really poorly on that last drive. They had the ball with like 7 and half minutes remaining and took 5 and half to score. Despite the fact though scored six, they could have left a lot more time on the clock to give themselves a chance just in case they missed that conversion. The way the dominated the ground game they should have won that game. Very disappointing day, hopefully the Packers don't follow suit.

Outside of the Rose Bowl, watching those turdburger games yesterday just made me mad. It'd be nice to see TCU play the Auburn/Oregon winner but that would make too much fucking sense. I wish the AP writers would vote TCU #1 as a giant fuck you to the BCS.

Note to Mark Richt, please note Oklahoma's turn around this year. From 5 loss team to Big 12 Champs and Fiesta Bowl winner. All after losing a Heisman trophy QB. That's how you right the ship.

Also, anybody else see the story where Terrelle Pryor was cleared on any NCAA wrong doing after being issued traffic citations 3 times in the last 3 year all while driving cars/SUV's owned by local used car salesmen?

I am glad TCU won, but the "Rose Bowl" would have been the Rose Bowl if Stanford not TCU had been there. Also, I am not sure TCU showed me a team that could beat either Auburn or Oregon... or Stanford.

Nothing like a complete fucking momentum killing SHOTGUN pass after ramming 10 straight runs down their maw to come within 2 to tie. I felt sorry for their team, as I knew the game was over the second they were in the 'gun. Epic Playcalling Fail.
