Not excited about Maryland hiring UConn's Edsall. Not even sure if this is an upgrade. I'm sure it'll filter down, but I'd love to know how the boosters feel about this pick. He certainly isn't a vanity pick, or even really an upgrade from the Fridge. I was kinda in the "hire Mike Leach" camp. Meh.

All these programs get hot and bothered to hire Leach until their overlords in Bristol, Connecticut call them up and remind them that Leach still has a pending lawsuit against the four letter network.

Damn shame about the Fridge though: maybe with O'Leary's success at Central Florida those two can get the band back together at a major program. Hell, what's Bobby Ross doing? Let's whoop it up, Stan Humphries style.

Leach would also more than likely be a better OC than HC. But he's too stuck on his own jock to take an OC job. Shit, I'd love for CMR to bring in an open maniac like that to run the offense.

I was reading about The Pistol formation, after Bammer busted it out a few times yesterday. They had a list of about 15 teams that run at least one set from the pistol. I was shocked, I say shocked, not to see The Dawgs in there :eyeroll:

@TerpsInsider: Source, on Leach: Maryland "got cold feet...They wanted to make the conservative, safe, non-confrontational hire."

Yeah, this morning more obviously came out about the hire but MD wanted Leach to drop the lawsuit, and he said he wouldn't. You would think he'd drop it, since getting a head-coaching job would be vindication enough. Who knows. He's been on a bunch of shortlists, so I guess sitting at home is more important than being on sidelines. MD couldn't have and won't be the only suitors this off-season.

As a WVU fan though, this is great news, coupled with the troubles at Pitt, its incredible.

I honestly think the collective boner for Leach is unwarranted. If you're a small school, I'd hire him. But if you're a big time program, I wouldn't go near him with a 10 ft. pole. I really don't believe his pass every down (former asst coaches have said they had to beg him to run the ball) and play little to no defense philosophy will fly for a major university in a major conference. Sure, it'll win you some games every year against crappy opponents and you may even pull off some upsets but I don't think you'll find consistent success under that system.

I prefer my coaches in the mold of Patterson and Harbaugh. Physical running games with a balanced passing attack and play great defense. Maybe I'm just old school like that.

Have you heard him color commentate any games on CBS' CS Sports Network (they primarily do C-USA games)? NC State played both UCF and East Carolina on that network this year and he's unintentionally hilarious and/or drunk. Good stuff.

Interestingly, I've heard Friedgen's name tossed around as a possible for Pitt, along with former BC coach Jagz among others.

Also, didn't realize you were a WVU fan, so here's a belated "Go Pack!"

I thought Friedgen was retiring soon, even before this whole getting rid of him deal.

He had 1 year left on his contract. Buuut, the OC left so this was the perfect time to get a new regime because most HCs want to bring in their own personnel. If you were to let Fridge go for another year until the end of his contract, you'd have to hire an OC that you might have to buy out of a contract or fire outright at the end of 1 season. In a weird way, it makes sense but it still stinks that a coach who was building something again with success had to be ousted.

Fridge has a place on Lake Oconee, GA, which puts him shouting distance from UGA and Clemson. If Dabo Sweeney or Richt were smart, they'd snatch his as up as OC immediately.

Fu, local sportstalk here was saying he's definitely looking to coach some more.

The Maryland OC James Franklin was the head coach in waiting, so didn't he really leave once it was clear that the AD was going in a new direction?

I've also heard RichRod thrown about as OC for Clemson if/when he is fired from Michigan, which sorta makes sense because Clemson fans have been wanting him back ever since he left Clemson for WVU.

Yeah, yr right. I'm getting my storylines mixed up. Its been a heck of a CFB season with mixups on the coaching front. I only follow MD because they are the state team, but only marginally.

The domino in both the NFL & CFB is Harbaugh. He's the key to almost every available position.

Is this where we come to bellyache about the shitball outcomes of the UGA and UW games?

Holy fuck that sucked, twice.

Shitfire, I'd cosign that move in a heartbeat...CMR would more likely hire Jeff Bowden or Chris Weinke though.

As for the Leach lawsuit, I had no idea it played into the Maryland thing, I was just throwing it out there based on an interview I heard with him during the hoopla surrounding his possible hiring at Miami. Good to be right every now and again though.

The long shot of Tyrod Taylor's Mom sleeping in the stands at the Orange Bowl was classic. Um, Frank Beemer being 1-18 vs Top 5 teams is a pretty atrocious record.

Also, Ron Jaworski, hop off Andrew Luck's cock for a minute.

I actually said to a friend tonight: "Jim Harbaugh can have any job he wants in America. Fuck, he could be Barry's Chief of Staff if he wanted it."

Also, Bloor and I estimated the % of white dudes over 40 who were jacking off over the "Bednarik-like 2 way play" of Stanford's FB/LB at 93%. Including Jaws and Chucky.

aka "The Meanest Man in America"

(I'm not sure you can be the best coach in the country if you've never actually won anything)

Did VT even play the second half? I went to bed at halftime.

The recent success of Train has renewed the Music Industry's interest in 90's bands like Train. There was an article in NOLA paper about how Better Than Ezra are getting phone calls to record again because of Train's comeback.
