Had this on draft tonight:
Image

http://www.dogfish.com/brews-spirits/th ... ntonia.htm

Quote:
Availability: Limited
My Antonia started out as a Collaboration beer when Sam brewed it at Birra del Borgo (hope you can read Italian) outside Rome, Italy with owner/brewer Leonardo DiVencenzo in October of 2008. In 2010, we began brewing My Antonia here at Dogfish Head brewery in Delaware for U.S. distribution.

My Antonia (named after the Willa Cather read), is a continually-hopped imperial pilsner.

This original 2008 batch was brewed and distributed by Birra del Borgo. A small quantity was sent over to the United States. The 2010 release will go to limited markets here in the U.S.. It should start hitting the shelves by mid-late June.

As an aside, in June of 2009, Leonardo came over to Delaware and brewed our original batch of Namaste beer with us at our Rehoboth Beach brewpub. And Leo is one of the four brewers who (along with Dogfish, Russian River and Baladin) are involved in the Eataly project in New York City. What goes around, comes around.

Tasted fine...a nice, crisp pilsner. Wasn't life-changing but I would definitely drink it again.

They've got Flying Dog "Flaming Bitch" IPA on tap at my local regular.

Its pretty good, but as I have told them several times before: get 2 Hearted back in this piece.

I tend to stick with one thing if I really like it, and 2 hearted is easily the best beer in Amgergikag, IMO.

I miss it all the time. Nothing wrong with that Flying Dog, but... yeah. For a drinkable-yet-strong IPA, nothing touches the Bell's.

I wish we had it here. I love it. My favorite American beer too.

I had one of these today at lunch. It is a Zelta Aldaris lager from Latvia with a pull top bottle.

I also had a pint of Christmas Leroy, a Belgian Dark Ale.

I'm going to apply for a job at a brewery conglomerate in Portland that owns one of my favorite breweries. I really, really fucking want to get it.

Quit working for the man. Move to Louisiana and start a brewery. We have several new ones opening right now and I still think the market is underserved. Especially good ones.

I bet you would be surprised if you lived in New Orleans to find out it is not what you think. Not to mention, you can spend you weekends at Kingfish bbqs.

The only one that makes it up here is Abita. What else is good?

NOLA is probably the best and easily my favorite. Heiner Brau, which is owned by German who has been brewing beer since he was 13 is hit or miss. It's also bottled under the label Covington Brewhouse. Teche opened recently but I don't like it at all. There's also 2 or 3 that are in production that I haven't tried.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend it for people not born there. Not sure I can recommend it if you're born there.

Hey, if your happy working for the man for the rest of your life, I won't try to convince you. But I understand the pull to bicycle lanes, solar panels, men with long beards, and rodney.

I'm not sure a qualified beer master should seek employment in the South or not according to Statististics. The South sort of sucks according to microbrew stats.

1. the South is "behind the times"
2. Bud Light and Miller Lite are the norm here. If you order a Samuel Adams, people think you're gettin' fancy on 'em
3. Because of 1 & 2, a single popular microbrewery can serve an entire region: Sweetwater and Terrapin in ATL/Athens, Yazoo in Tennessee, Abita in Louisiana, Highland in NC, although Asheville's output of quality craftbrews could garner the nickname "Portland of the South".

Well if you actually look at that map.
It's just an inversed population map with darker colors equaling lower population DENSITIES.

You really can't draw any conclusions off of that without the statistics.
I'm sure there are outliers that include state variations.
But this is a population map.

Colors are pretty.
And people are dumb.

This is more or less the inverse of the original post

And without the statistical basis, I'm not sure what point anyone is trying to prove.

Another pertinent point is, who cares about the absolute number of microbreweries?
It's totally about distribution.
If there are five jackass brew pubs in a city that only serve at their restaurant
it's not very reflective of the actual selection available to consumers in the area/county.
Thus, it may be a map for the beer drinker that can afford a $9 hamburger, but not representative for the "average" beer-drinking consumer.

BUT

It doesn't defeat the brewmaster job availability argument.
the darker states are statistically a better bet...
considering that most of those jobs are family connections

Statistics are fun.
But thinking about what you're looking at might not be as easy.
