I'm surprised nobody mentioned elastic waist bands for the hefty yet.

love leather braces with flannel trousers.
braces only work if you're entire ensemble (shirt, tie, jacket) is just right. and don't be rolling your sleeves up because you will look like mr. drucker*. and polish those shoes.

*this is for you, bob.

That's right. I'm guessing a hell of a lot of obners have never worn braces and can only picture stretchy rainbow suspenders with cheap metal clasps (ala mork from ork).

I used to wear braces a lot 15 years ago when I wore suits and ties everyday. A really nice set of braces that match the outfit look great. But these days only wearing suits a few times a year, braces just aren't very practical because you want them to match the whole ensemble, be very nice ones (read fairly expensive), and are worthless outside of that.

I don't even see them nearly as much in stores and catalogs, probably for that reason.

For what's it worth, I asked the all-knowing chatzy to choose and chatzy choose braces.

Braces for tuxedoes only, otherwise wide belts.

I had a good time rofling at this thread.

Also, what kind of nerd calls them "braces"? When I read braces, I think of something that made my teeth hurt for way too many years in middle school.

I just wear pants that fit. No belt unless I'm wearing a suit. Which is never.

God, Busty to thread immediately.

So, you're saying you walk around looking like Jerry Seinfeld all the time?

I definitely have a slacker look goin' on. And on the rare occasion I wear a shirt with a collar, it goes untucked.

ugh.

I have 1 pair of jeans that I don't always wear a belt with, and even then it's only when the shirts cover the waisteline. Belts are sort of a must on anything above sweatpants, dude. BUCKLE UP MUTTY.

With a nice made to measure suit there is no reason for a belt (or braces). But it should not have the belt loops.

I am getting ready to get a suit made for me and will be going this route. Nice clean look
