Unless I missed it, I'm surprised Roxy Music - Country Life hasn't been mentioned before.

I know how to search various sites for 1974 albums. I'd rather read about that one record from said year and why it is dear to you.

Yeah, but most people aren't going to do this anyway. Plus, you might be able to search for '74 albums, but look at the evidence on hand: there are frequenters of a longstanding music board in 2010 who hadn't even heard I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight and Too Much Too Soon.

I have heard OF IWTSTBLT, but never sought it out. I suppose multiple listens, and or a relapse of GWEEG topking might turn it into a classic, but right now it's not really my cup of tea.

.

Yeah, I've heard of it too. For some reason, it has escaped me. I agree with Pete on this. But I understand we live in a post a list world.

Why try to micro-manage it to such a degree? It's not like Obner has thousands of contributors, plus give it a couple more entries and enthusiasm will drop to the usual less-than-zero. If I were you I'd let this ride while it lasts.

And besides, the best way to cap it off is to just go ahead and start one for another year.

(But don't do it now, on a Friday afternoon.)

Because of how it was released in later years, it's sometimes thought of as one. It's not. While not as good as #1 Record, this record has some seriously good tracks. Nothing new hear, I just haven't seen it mentioned.

Here's one probably with very limited appeal. I'd guess that Poptodd and Z would dig this but it's possible that's it.

Burnier & Cartier - 1974

Brasilian MPB - Pop/Jazz/Folk Fusion guitar duo

Burnier is Luiz Bonfa's son or nephew I'm not sure which. They were signed to Odeon in the mid 70's on Milton Nascimento's recommendation. I think Luiz Bonfa contributed some songs to this and plays a bit on a few of the songs. They sound a bit like a Brasilian Alzo & Udine to me if anyone knows Alzo & Udine. It's pretty mellow but very soulful with nice melodies that get under your skin after a few listens.

Dadawah - Peace & Love

So I had this tagged as 1975, because that's when the more widely available UK LP came out, but apparently the original is 1974. Last year's LP reissue is basically the reason I started buying records again. This might just be the best album ever. 4 songs, all about 10 minutes. Spiritual reggae, play it really loud. Hugely engrossing record.

Listened to "I Want the Bright Lights." I liked the songwriting and the Irish/Scottish folk vibe with some pretty cool guitar parts. Didn't like Linda Thompson voice much. It worked well in duets but by itself, it didn't do it for me.

My short assessment probably doesn't do it justice. I definitely liked it enough to keep listening to it.

I'm not in favor of telling people they should or shouldn't post. I can read or not read what I want and am comfortable serving as my own filter. That said, I will absolutely be more likely to read the posts from those who post a smaller number of records and take the time to add a bit of description or reasoning as to why they are worth listening to and will be guaranteed to ignore just a list of record names without anything else.

I liked it a little better than you, but overall I much prefer Shoot Out the Lights.

So... what's the next year and when's it gonna show up?
I may just have to start the thread, myself, if it don't show up soon.

Both of those albums are great, btw, just in fairly different ways.

Anyone who likes both should also check out Richard & Linda's Pour Down Like Silver. And/or Fairport Convention's Unhalfbricking.

No fearing the reaper on this one, there's a reason Birdman named their album after a line from this one.

Side one is flawless. I recommend grabbing the Hot City version that came out recently to get the complete picture.

Nice one, Billz. "Career of Evil", "ME 262", "Dominance and Submission", "Subhuman", "Cagey Cretins", "Harvester of Eyes", "Astronomy", and "Flaming Telepaths" - my fave BOC, and it'd probably be a huge surprise to anyone who only knows them from "Don't Fear the Reaper" onwards.
