Is that the indie-rock equivalent of "It's his Life of Chris Gaines"?

I haven't heard this yet, but I only really liked 3-4 songs from Shepherd's Dog, so I'm not falling all over myself to hear it.

Yeah I can't really muster up any desire to hear this one.

I've listened to a few songs so far driving around in the truck. I like it, don't know that any of it's knocked me out, but the fleshed out production is kind of a refreshing change from previous stuff.

I've listened to it a couple times and sort of agree. I will say that the first time I listened to it was in headphones and that seemed to connected the best.

And Haq, i'm not sure, but I sort of like DAIADU

Only listened to it once all the way through, but I like it a lot. The last track knocked me out on first listen, but I'm starting to get wary of overplaying it.

The new Destroyer also fits into the same vein of 70s AM Gold, and it's so much better than this one.

I have to say I liked it best 1st listen...but now not as much. It made me drag out "Shepards Dog" and the 1st 2, which really makes this seem way overproduced.

i'm digging it big time. but i've loved pretty much everything i've heard from him. i think it also helped that i had been living with "Walking Far From Home" and "Tree By The River" for a couple of months before hearing the full album. it was definitely jarring (and initially disappointing for sure) when i first heard those. but repeated listens and they've sunk their teeth into me and i love them. the rest of the album is following this formula for me as well - and maybe i was a little more prepared for the production/up-front vocals, etc.... i just think this one needs time if you're willing....

you gotta at least hand it to him for moving on from his "dude with a guitar" beginnings. that would've gotten old after 4 albums. this pitchfork article is actually really good...this line especially:

Sam Beam Wrote:
but you push yourself to do something you haven't done. I hope people like [the new record]. I think some people will dig it and some people will wish it was The Creek Drank the Cradle. And that's cool. I wish they would come along with me, but I'm glad they enjoyed that one record."

i'm going along for the ride for sure. hoping they add CO to their spring tour dates - they are sounding great live.

in the meantime, enjoy this video of their amoeba in-store from a couple days ago.

Worse, he's from South Carolina. Only went to school and worked in Florida. I think he's in Austin these days.

Streamed this a bunch, and so I bought it last night. Really digging the record. Having lyrics in front of me really solidified it as well. IMO, some of the best lyrics he's ever written. Love the new direction and think that it might make me want to see him live again to see how he implements it differently.

gave it another listen the other day, and while i think some of these are really good songs, i decided that overall the production is too heavy-handed, and i think it's just not a genuine work because of it. i don't know. i really liked my first few listens, and then was left with a generic filmy after-taste with this last listen...

I am just not liking this at all. It's the first thing of his I've listened to since that record he did with Calexico (which I thought was pretty decent) and this is not what I would expect to hear from him. Just too damn glossy or something.

I sort of like it. But it also seems to be following this disturbing trend to aspire to weak late-eighties MOR Lite FM or something. A couple of tracks on one of the recent Stars record had the same kinda vibe. *shivers*
