Any bets on how long before this gets the axe due to in-fighting?

his backing vox = magic ingredient

MA is in San Rafael recording the new Chickenfoot rekkid. One hell of a nice guy.

Any type of comprehension level or understanding that he's wasting his time creating music is irrelevant. He's having a great time playing with a monster drummer and businessman Sammy. They (3) also spend time part of the time making fun of their guitarist who is wound tight, has zero sense of humor and has an ego the size of Alaska.

With Wolfgangbanger Van Halen in the band, I don't look for Michael Anthony's return to the band any time soon.

I saw MA recently on That Metal Show and he did come off as a genuinely nice guy.

good point - as long as he's enjoying what he's doing, nothing else should matter

i just wish bands didn't have to get to a point where they hated each other so much a reunion was impossible

Also, these dudes all probably have enough money, and still have label backing because shit like this sells, that he doesn't need to worry about the cost of studio time, etc. He's basically living the dream, even if it is an aural nightmare for people like us.

I disagree. He's an effin maniac is what he is, and I'm not talking about The CP's, Chickenfoot, or any of that other stuff. He might not be in the " Philly Joe, Elvin J, Art Blakey, Krupa, Tony Williams" league, but he certainly brings something to the party. :wanker:

Portishead is curating an ATP in Asbury Park, NJ in September. That's pretty cool.

I can't imagine Vai not having a sense of humor. One of the few wankers that I really like, because his playing actually makes me smile and even chuckle. Just goofy shit.

I'm with you. Guy is a "monster" rock n roll drummer.

Who can listen to Blood Sugar Sex Magik with an objective ear and not hear a beast? Rock n roll, white boy funk, etc, the guy has chops.

No accounting for taste.

granted, i'm not much of a chili peppers fan, but everything i've heard sounds like he got real good at that white-guy-playing-funk-backbeats-with-a-ringy-snare-drum thing, which doesn't take a whole of of skill.

I always like Chad's work, but more to the point, Chickenfoot is unlistenable steaming garbage.

I'm a drummer as well, and his licks are just tiresome to me.

Monster to me would be Dave Weckl or Dave Grohl. Listen to this Image, compare Grohl's playing on that to Chad Smith and tell me who the monster is.

*shrug* Oh, well. Takes all kinds. 8-)
