They sold out TWO shows at the UIC Pavillion (cap. 10,000) in just minutes.
Just added a third show.

I knew they were big, but to sell 30,000 tickets that quickly just kinda boggles my mind. Good for them.

EDIT:
Thanks to Kyle for the new thread title.

that 3rd show (earlier than the other 2) is kinda bizarre placement because there's a night between it and the others. that night is roller derby, so they have to tear everything down for one night and then set it all back up 2 days later.

I mean, they're headliners for Coachella and New Orleans Jazz Fest.

Any bigger than that you're talking Rolling Stones or U2 level.

i think they have pretty much transcended hipsters as their only fanbase. they're the arcade fire; not aids wolf.

Aren't the National opening for these shows? I'm not surprised they sold out that fast.

I just pictured them doing Take 5, but with that intense marching beat

toots, let's not go there.

There has been much gnashing of teeth and hand wringing over the years on this board about the JazzFest being called, well, Jazzfest, when the headliners are always large pop acts. (Prince of Darkness being the main culprit)

I'm assuming this is where you going?

If not, my bad.

It's only been happening every year since 1970 ;). I've posted about it a bunch.

As far as the board argument, some are not reading inclined enough to read the Jazz & Hertiage part. It's suppose to not only celebrate Jazz but also New Orleans's contribution to music. That's why the first Jazzfest had the Meters, Fats Domino, Mahalia Jackson among other non-jazz musicians. I guess they could have named it something nonsensical like "Lollapollozza" or "Coachella" and everyone would have been happier. Considering that Fats has as good as a claim as anyone to "inventing" rock'n'roll, I think all rock acts are appropriate.

It has a "food lineup," which is pretty awesome.

It's actually the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. I think the name remains out of tradition, though if you remove the headliners, there are a ton of local acts that perform everything from jazz to zydeco.

*edit for Tanner's beating me to it.
