I feel like even if the Coachella lineup included most or all of my favorite bands and the Jazzfest lineup was just a normal JazzFest lineup, I'd rather be at Jazzfest mainly because A. I'd rather be in New Orleans than in the middle of the fucking desert and B. the festival concert experience hasn't done much for me in a long long time.

Also, Cats' Lucero picture wins this thread.

it's the desert, but the polo fields are actually on nice soft grass, with palm trees surrounding it. you feel like you're on some beautiful golf course, not in the desert.

Exactly. Even if the festival grounds have a golf course feel to them, there is a huge potential for it to be hot as hell and full of smelly, sweaty hipsters. Also, not much else to do there but the festival and the parties/pools because it's the fucking desert.

At jazzfest, you bail the festival grounds by 8pm and go back to your hotel and shower and then go out in New Orleans for some great grub, a lot of drinking and in all likelihood more music. Just a much better environment than Coachella. The fact that Jazzfest's lineup is much more to my liking is just gravy.

Granted, I only did Coachella once, but it was beyond hot as balls and that drags the entire experience WAY down. There's no escaping that you're in the goddamn desert, and there's still a noise curfew on the thing so it shuts down at 10 or something.
NOLA with a good lineup, food selection and the city awaiting afterward... that's a whole lot of win. Do it up, Derris.

coming from Florida, we didn't even break a sweat last year. seriously. it was sunny, but dry and warm, perfect for getting all 'chillbro' in the sun, and relaxing on the grass. and i can assure you that it does not shut down at 10. Sir Paul payed till 12:30, and the campgrounds go till 4-5 am if you're into that.

For me, it's just a much easier trip to do J-Fest. I've got nothing against Coachella at all.

Hour and a half flight, stay with friends (who are lifelong residents), and have some down time doing other things. All for under $500 including tickets (of course having a free place to stay helps with this).

I've been down there a lot but never for Mardi Gras or Jazzfest. Figured it was time to do one of them.

Last weekend in April and first weekend in May this year.

Potential for rain but temp-wise it should be great.
