hey, you're the one that posted that. You'll notice that I'm not gonna post about how great it was to shut down certain out-of-town "MVP" chants last night in Philly...
But then, rooting for that team is at best a constantly losing battle.

I had it backwards.

Nothing really shocks me in sports, but this Jerry Sloan resignation is about as close as it gets. It's fucking shocking.

He came out of lurker mode for my mention of Legaio Urbana a week or two ago so he's around.

Ray Allen breaks the all-time 3-point mark tonight. I wish he never left Milwaukee, but he made me a Seattle and a Boston fan the minute he joined those teams. One of my favorite players in the NBA.

Yep. It will. I'm wondering if I can take a day of bereavement tomorrow. Bloor nailed the one word I'm feeling right now: shock. I mean the guy is pushing 70, so it really shouldn't be shocking, but when a guy is your team's coach for 23 years and then you wake up one morning and just like that he's not, shock is really the only word. For my entire basketball watching life, he's been the only coach of my team. Sure there are knocks on Sloan (mainly his stubbornness/refusal to modify or adapt his routines and system), but I'm really going to miss him. I'll never forget going to Jazz games as a little kid and from the upper deck hearing him spray 7-letter bombs all over the place. Awesome. As for his toughness, here's a great read about how he almost threw down with C-Webb back in the day:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/Once-upon-a-time-Chris-Webber-tried-to-fight-Je?urn=nba-237298

And, as for his skills as a coach, never forget that he led the following starting five to 42 wins and within one game of the playoffs:
Carlos Arroyo, Greg Ostertag, Andrei Kirilenko, Matt Harpring, DeShawn Stevenson

Sure, Philip has all the rings, but I'd really like to have seen him step off the MJ/Shaq/Kobe gravy train, take the reins of THAT squad and see what happened. Thanks for nearly a quarter century of entertaining basketball, Coach Sloan.

Michael Jordan plays in full court Bobcat scrimmage

Story is woefully devoid of Charles Oakley news.

do you think jazz fans will turn against deron williams because of this, since it is being widely speculated that he was the primary reason sloan pulled the ripcord mid-season?

That Deron Williams forced Sloan out definitely makes for a juicy headline, so that's why it's being talked about so much by so many of the national guys. Ric Bucher, for instance, would have you believe that's the entire reason Sloan stepped down. Personally, I think you can believe about 10% of what comes out of Ric Bucher's mouth, so with that in mind, I think the Williams argument was definitely a factor, but not the factor. That said, with all the headlines, Deron is definitely going to take some for this. I mean Sloan is loved here. He's our Bobby Cox. Best case scenario at this point: Deron takes some heat for this, but the Jazz come together and start winning again and all is forgiven, Deron re-signs after next year. Worst case: this becomes a mini-version of Lebron and the Cavs where the organization mortgages the farm in an effort to placate their star (assuming this is part of the reason Sloan left) who then turns around and does them without vasoline anyway.

I love how the Bobcats somehow own the Lakers, winning 8 of the last 10 between the two teams. Including last night's 20 point blowout.

Whoa. Just saw that. I'd like to say they're done but they're too good and I think this is just a case of losing that hunger in the middle of a LONG season and getting everyone's best shot. If anyone can flip the switch it's the Lake Show. Also, when the calendar turns to March is when teams truly start to pick it up. That said, I wish it was a sign of things to come for the Lakers.

Down here, we are being treated to litigation and financial bleeding by our ownership group. Hawks have the 8th highest payroll, are on pace to win over 50 games, and people are staying away in droves. Horribly spent money on Joe Johnson and a "we aren't serious about winning" hire in head coach Larry Drew. This team won't sniff the Eastern Conference Finals and will be lucky to get out of the 1st round.

Also, man, what happened to the Bucks?

The Elias Sports Bureau reports that the Cavaliers’ victory marked the first time in NBA history that prior to the All-Star break a team at least 30 games below .500 defeated a team 20 or more games above .500.

Ugh, the Bucks are so bad offensively this year. They are in the top three or four in scoring Defense, but cannot shoot the ball to save their fucking lives. Last night at one point the were 2 of 17 from 3. They were within 2 against the nuggets, but I knew they would lose, so I shut it off...they suck. Still don't understand the Maggette and Gooden signings.

Also, did everyone see that full court alley-oop pass from Wade to Lebron. Ridiculous.

Yeah, that was spectacular. Wade literally looked like an NFL QB on that play.
