Wow...what Bob said.
I'm not sure I could ever be that hungry. The ending raised this to an unexpected level of disgust.

Damn. Sorry to hear it toots. Awful experience to have to look those folks in the eye and watch them pack up their stuff. Lots of anger and sadness.

I remember at my last job during "Monday, Bloody Monday" in 2009 they cut 15% of the jobs from the company in one day. They literally had a security guy on site for the next couple of days in case someone decided to come back and go nuts.

The worst part about it was my department went from 7 to 4 people. So 4 people now taking on the burden of 7 and the stress that came with that. Oh, and no one got raises that year. Just a shitty situation.

Back in the good old bad old days at Lands End I got to be around for one of those too. "Everyone go to your desk and stay there, please." So everyone's standing around their cubicles, talking, and then one by one phones start ringing. If your phone rings, it's HR telling you to please come to Conference Room Whatever, and they canned you. This went on for all 8 hours. You're in the middle of a conversation with someone next to you about how fucked up all this is, and then their phone rings, and it's like "welp, bye. Shit man."

And now here they're letting a few hundred go every quarter, and haven't said how many it will be total. But there are about 10k of us, and it's not really in my dept. So not stressful.

i work for a company that develops/maintains an online photo book application, similar to shutterfly or snapfish

i got my cousin hired and he didn't make the cut. kind of sucks because he went from an hourly job working at staples to a good salary position with a dev team here. but on the bright side, he got in a solid year of software development to put on his resume. i'm throwing every lead and resource i can his way...

At the big newspaper layoff, the Publisher thought that it would be a nice gesture to order 30 PIZZAS in case the newly unemployed were suddenly stricken with hunger. I couldn't look at these two giant stacks of untouched pizzas without starting to laugh.

Well, at least the GOP will fix the economy with tough anti-abortion legislation!
