Yeah I probably will. What I heard sounded like I might dig it.

That Tim Hecker is primed to take my #1 spot.

If you want a quick preview of the Jaar, it's still streaming at http://3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/ (about halfway down the page at the time I'm writing this) along with a ton of other interesting stuff.

Sometimes I can get with the Jaar, sometimes not.

Surprisingly, I do like the Hecker quite a bit.

Actually really enjoying this. It's got something that makes it a lot more palatable than Fursaxa, Grouper, Christina Carter, etc, as far as resonant female vocal droning goes.

I'm still not sure about it, to be honest. I wasn't crazy about her previous EP so maybe I should have just stayed away from this. I'm getting kind of a similar vibe from it, and while it's pretty and all, I don't feel particularly engaged by it.

I guess this is where our tastes differ. It's pretty and all, but to me it's a bit of a throwaway. I don't get any sort of tension from it that I get it with Grouper or Scorces.

Yeah, I think I enjoy Grouper more as well.

Is there going to be a new Grouper full-length soon?

Have seen nothing a new full length but from Grouper site:

A TWO PART VINYL, SELF RELEASE, APRIL 2011. CONSISTS OF:
-DREAM LOSS, FULL LENGTH 12", GR-006A.
-ALIEN OBSERVER, FULL LENGTH 12", GR-006B.

Also, I think a couple of older splits are being rereleased this year; Inca Ore and something else I believe.

Johann Johannsson - Virthulegu Forsetar

My favorite of the year so far, followed closely by that Hecker then Deaf Center.

Isn't that an older album - from 2004?

I thought the name looked familiar, and then I looked it up. I remember it being really good, though. I need to go back and re-listen to that guy's stuff again.

Might be a reissue as the piece was originally performed in '03 or '04, I have no idea. I just got my copy from Touch this week and have been loving it.

Edit: Yep, looks like it was a CD release in '04 and just got the vinyl treatment this year. Well damn, wish I would have known about this six or seven years ago. Missed the bus on this one I suppose. I guess that makes Hecker my favorite 2011 release.

01. Danielson - The Best of Glouchester County
02. Radiohead - The King of Limbs

And that is the total sum of new albums I've heard from 2011. I have a hard time thinking that I will hear anything to top Danielson, though...

Granted we're only 2 months into the year, but forthcoming 2011 albums will have a tough road to beat this out for my #1 spot.
