The Screaming End: The Best Of Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps

Dammit, now I've gone and started in with the Gene Vincent. This pretty much means I'm likely gonna be on a week or so rockabilly bender. Anyway, this is an excellent hits collection with all the big songs you know and love. Of course, if you're really interested in this music, the individual albums are well worth digging into because especially the first 5 or so he did with the Blue Caps which are all pretty fantastic. Now, I just wanna get home and start digging out all the vinyl asap. Oh, and if anyone has The Road is Rocky 56-71 on Bear Family Records, let me know. I can't seem to find it for under $200, but I really would like to get my hands on a copy.

If you like Tool & Opeth, this might be for you.

Allmusic:
Quote:
...But while the group's early work proved to be quite suffocating at times, and Valley of Smoke is still guaranteed to stump even the most experienced musical explorers at first listen (or three, or five), its songs also come across as more fluid and smooth; as more of a body of work than anything that preceded them. Where to begin? Well, there's the rhythmic and textural smorgasbord of "Elegy"; the more linear approach of "Above," which sees the quartet encroaching on Isis territory; the highly percussive title track, which gets as wonky as Primus, then throws in a little bossa nova for good measure; not to mention the flashbacks to everyone from Voivod to Cynic to Atheist to John friggin' Coltrane found on otherworldly soundscapes like "Miasma," "Below," and "Past Tense."...

OKeh Western Swing

This is a truly excellent collection of 28 sides featuring 22 different groups or artists. Seven numbers are by Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys. The collection includes precursors from the '20s such as Emmitt Miller's original "Lovesick Blues" right up through a 1950 recording by Leon McAuliffe and his Western Swing Band. No link, only got this on vinyl and haven't converted it yet.

Didn't grab anything on my way out the door this morning, so I'm, listening to stuff that's already on my iTunes and am going to update as the day goes on.
