Bob Schneider - Lonelyland

Pretty strong rootsy singer/songwriter album. Not sure if he did anything else worth listening. Every other thing I checked out by him ranged from terrible to just disappointing.

good album, but yeah, the rest of his stuff pretty much sucks ass, for the most part

I know I mentioned one of his albums in the '91 thread but this one is good too:

a big reason i like these threads, they help me fix my damn tags in itunes. i had this kilgour in as 2002.

coincidentally, i listened to this yesterday for the first time in ages, also release in '01, and it was a damn fine listen:

a great year for some debuts. to go along with the previously mentioned Strokes, Kings of Convenience and Constantines rekkids:

along with an excellent swan song in:

contains what i might have to consider as one of the best final songs on a bands final album, "Sunrise"

I liked this a lot at the time, but haven't heard it in a long time...might not hold up, methinks.

Just thought of another 2001 album that I really like.

The Frogs - Hopscotch Lollipop Sunday Surprise

This was their final album, but it's the only one I've heard in full. Wacky, but tuneful pop songs.

Have to chime in on the Moods For Moderns love. Saw them play one of their earliest shows when all they had to sell was a 3 song single. I think they broke up right after "Loud And Clear" came out.

That Schneider record has one fucking amazing song (2002) but the rest is sorta meh.

Sadly, the last Low album that I really liked. My favorite from the year at the time.

This is probably my favorite album of the whole decade.

I had never heard a note of Low, but have been reading you guys rave about them for years so I listened to the samples of this album on Amazon...not at ALL what I was expecting.

Andrew WK - I Get Wet

Came in late (November) of 2001. I remember when I saw the "Party Hard" video on MTV2. I thought it was very, very silly. And I suppose it is, but the whole album is full of hardcore pop that's ridiculously catchy. It's hard not to listen to it and not rock out, have fun, or both.

Actual Tigers - Gravelled & Green

Apparently their first and only album. Good pop that nods to their influences without lapping their balls or completely aping their sound.

I can understand only listening once or twice if it's something you downloaded, but since you bought it, why not give it a little more time?

Definitely bad, but I later realized after checking out some samples of their other albums that whatever it is they have up there for samples is neither Low nor Things We Lost In The Fire

What I heard from The Great Destroyer I kinda liked so maybe I'll start there.

Perhaps I should let jsh or Drinky take this one, but I do think (based on what little I know of the stuff you like) The Great Destroyer wouldn't be a bad starting point for you. Also, think you might like some of the stuff they did with Dirty Three.
