Fancy Queens of the Stone Age and/or "post-grunge"? You'll eat this up. From 2010, but I just discovered it. Good enough for a thread imo. Link to come.

Great guitar tone. Vocals could be a little better, but you could say that about a TON of stuff these days.

this.

But I haven't seen JEFF in over a year. They play around here pretty frequently, so I should make the effort to see how their sound has progressed. I admittedly stayed away from MeeMaw (Pujol's most-recent band), and should check him out considering lots of rave reviews (although I've mentioned to nico that stuff our local AltWeekly gets behind usually leaves me nonplussed).

Another point for Obner and why the board rules sometimes.

I was literally reading one of Atl's local music rags Stomp and Stammer this morning and it was their 2010 year in review issue. This band got a couple of mentions (particularly their live show) and it piqued my interest.

Come upstairs, get on the board and here we are.

Thanks SB. Will be checking it out today.

RE: JEFF's guitar tone: I'm not sure of Jake's gear, but sounds like some Super Fuzz/Big Muff action.

Third Man Records just released a 12"of JEFF's recent live show at Third Man Records' venue.
Of some note is that Jamin Orrall, the drummer in JEFF, (brother Jake is on guitar) was the original drummer for now defunct, but once hot shit in Nashville and the UK, Be Your Own Pet.
The guitarist from Be Your Own Pet, Jonas Stein, has a pretty bad-ass band called Turbo Fruits. Here's an article about Stein. and Turbo Fruits Bandcamp Page

The Orrall's had another short-lived project called Skyblazer, that was basically just a stoner-rock band along the lines of Black Mountain.

so I listened to one of their albums yesterday and I went back and forth on it, but I am certain that if it came out in 1995 it would've been the greatest thing ever recorded.

I'm going to have to check them out. I thought they were a jamband because of the name but the one or two songs I've heard have been decent.

Stu (and anyone else who went), how is Next Big Nashville? Last year's lineup looked great.

I have a very good friend who lives in Clarksville, and we are considering going this year.

It's good n' easy. Much easier to get around and see shows you want to see than say, SXSW. There are shuttles to all the clubs that pick up every 15 minutes or so. I usually buy a writstband that gets me into all the shows over the course of the weekend. Last year they tried each night to program similar in genre music in individual clubs so if you wanted to you could stay put and be happy with what you saw throughout the night.

Cool. I'm going to try to swing it. Sounds like a good time.

Since I have a man-crush on Josh Homme and love almost everything he does, I'm guessing I'll enjoy this, huh?

I have seen the band name mentioned before, but I haven't listened to any of their stuff yet. Now you've gotten me excited!!! Thanks...

husker - check out their new one, We Are The Champions. Undoubtedly in my top 10 for 2011. I'm a big QOTSA fan too, but this is more Weezer, stoner rock, 80s punk with the occasional psych touch.

Not terrible but the songs really started to run together on first listen. Talking about the new one, that is. My first exposure to this band.

Keep listening. I felt the same way at first. The melodies and riffs will grab you if you spend more time with it.

they used to be called JEFF. "The Brotherhood" was added later, I guess because it's two brothers in the band?

if anyone is curious, and would rather just stream We Are the Champions, NPR has it up at First Listen

HERE is our local Atl-Weekly's review of the record.
