I'm getting pretty sick of the 80s revivalism.

Terrible. Seems they liked MGMT's album art from last year. But the Strokes, aside from the original Is This It cover, have always had weak album art.

yeah, that's rough.

"Dude, it's like we're coming at this album from all angles. But, the angles aren't really clear and you don't know where they're coming from. It'd be cool if we could come up with something about that for the cover. Nick, what was the name of that dude that you had the poster of in high school?? MC Ecker? That'd be sweet."

It's been going on since the early 00's. Is it post-irony? That album cover just pisses me off. It's too literal (angles for Angles) and pastiche.

It's sort of puzzling. Because they've always had a sense of style even if it has been too carefully crafted.

While I'll obviously snag this, my interest waned when I learned that most of the songs came from a decade old jam session with Clapton. Bleeeeecccchhhhhhhhh.

I listen to his first album and that Redboy album though.

Thanks, Radcliffe.

Gar- As long as he stays in a sideman role, I'm not all offended by Clapton.

My first thought was "Great, I can't wait to hear him and Dawes". And then I recalled that it was for his upcoming live dates he was using them. I still downloaded it, but 10 year old jams with Clapton? I hope he can invoke the same magic for Robbie that made 'Change the World' our new 'Layla'.

Storyville is a pretty decent follow up to that first album if you had not heard it. I think there's a Neil Young duet in there with Soap Box Preacher.

PAUL SIEBEL - LIVE AT McCABE'S w/DAVID BROMBERG

This ten track recording is from 1981 and features Siebel in an acoustic setting with friends David Bromberg and Gary White at the legendary McCabe‘s. It’s a mix of folk and country covers with some of his original classics here and there. He only made two studio albums back in the day so anything we can find by him automatically shoots to the top of the listening stack. This came out on vinyl in the early eighties and then joined him in the witness protection program shortly thereafter.

That RR got me to putting up Storyville here. Like most comebacks of the early 90's this is a soulful R&B bombastic production, think Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer. If you can appreciate it in that context its a keeper for all time.

Quote:
Mark Deming/AMG. . . gracefully moody musical structures not entirely unlike the sophisticated melodies of his first album. But the material on Storyville does have a lighter step and a freer swing than the songs on Robertson's debut, and his vocals are in far better shape this time out, boasting a lot more body and nuance than the sometimes fragile rasp that dominated his first time at bat. And Robertson had the good sense to bring Art Neville, his brother Aaron, Ziggyboo Modeleste, and Chief Bo Dollis on board; if the New Orleans presence in these songs is more often felt than heard, it still snakes powerfully through the music and honors the spirits that helped influence this music. If Robbie Robertson was about taking his music to a new and different place, Storyville found him taking his music back home and still finding new room to move within it, and if it's a more subtle album, in many ways it's also more satisfying.

It just saddens me that they tore Storyville down. Really wish I could have seen it.

I did not know that. Damn.

Oh wait do you mean from back in the 40's, or were some leftover structures razed from Katrina?

From my understanding, it was all torn down to build projects and there was this idea of erasing it's memory from the city. But it would be cool to be able see the places where Jazz was birthed. Might also be cool if it was still in operation.

But Sidney Bechet's home was torn down post-Katrina, which is a loss.
