Seriously... we're 1-1/2 hours into Opening Day, and there's no Major League Baseball thread yet? Or am I missing it somewhere?

Anyway, the Brewers got off to a quick start, with their first two batters of the year hitting homers. They currently lead the Reds 3-1, still in the 1st inning.

The Yankees are clinging to a 1-run lead in the 5th, while the Braves are up 2-0 on the Nats.

That's it so far...

Let's Go Brewers!!!

Are the Cubs mathematically eliminated yet?

last year, Giants once again proved that regular season success can be highly overrated. will be interesting to see how the rotation holds up this year after putting in a lot of innings last year. also, when can Barry Zito just go away somewhere?

i'm predicting a major rangers drop-off this season, after last year's shocking world series appearance

And I'm predicting that, despite this prediction of a drop-off, you'll still find a way to be disappointed.

I like the cut of your jib FR!

I don't follow off season baseball enough to comment on teams other than those from the NL East so here are my thoughts on that.

On paper, it looks like the Phils and Braves will go at it again. Marlins could make some noise but the Mets are still in disarray (not to mention aging badly). Before Spring training I would've said the Braves are playing for the wild card. They'd have to play perfect baseball and the Phils would've had to be merely "good". But, with nagging injuries to Brad Lidge, Chase Utley, Polanco, and the loss of Jason Werth, they don't look so unbeatable these days. Not to mention Ryan Howard can disappear for a month or two every season it seems.

Phils certainly throw out the best pitching rotation of anyone since the Braves were throwing out 3 hall of famers (and Steve Avery) in the 90's. But, I don't think their offense is as good AND I think the Braves offense is much better this year with Uggla. I also think that the Braves have a top 5 rotation in the NL and maybe the best bullpen in baseball. Top to bottom they may be better than the Phils.

Potential issues:

Chipper hasn't played a full season in YEARS. He will not stay healthy but might be there when it counts.
Nate McClouth had a TERRIBLE year last year. A giant hole in the lineup. He has to be better.
Rookie Freddie Freeman will play his first full season. Could be boom or bust.
Fielding. We were ATROCIOUS in fielding last year. Will our offense be able to overcome that glaring issue (See: NL Wild Card against Giants)

Gonna be interesting to say the least.

I love Cameron Maybin already. He's going to be fun to watch this season.
