What it comes down to is what you stated, they're solid. Everyone will be gunning for the Phils. Also, I think whoever gets the WC slot will just have such an up-hill battle to get to the NLCS.

Phils got off to a shaky start, and were then basically heckled by the crowd into winning?

ah yes, the shame/pride mixture of being a Philly sports fan.
Still, they should be pumped. Sixers have been fantastic lately and they can't give tickets away to their games...

Good luck with the season KC.
i guess i understand the point you're trying to make but i fail to see how dude's bloated salary has anything to do with the Royals' success. every year i'm hopeful we'll make a vcu-like run for a central title & a possible deep run into the playoffs, but the chances for a small-market team with an owner like former wal-mart prez & notorious skinflint david glass doesn't really help matters - we can't contend with the Big Boys of ball with his careless business model. we've got a wicked good farm system that's almost on par with Minnesota & NYY & Atlanta thanks in part to talent in management & scouting, but we can't sustain any type of success after the development stage bc glass hawks off our best players to make up for lost revenue. he's managed to generate bundles of cash through silly promotions, small refurbishment tweaks to the stadium & complimentary vials of george brett's semen to all who set foot in the ballpark. we're a rabid fanbase & we love semen - even buddy biancalana's. frank white semen day is practically holiday in KC.
glass is a brilliant & terrible human being. he's managed to turn a fast buck by duping the hopeful public into seats while we watch our hometown favorite skullfucked into submission by the West Des Moines American Legion squad. the stadium might only be 1/5 full come september, but glass will probably earn his keep by late-july or august thanks to cash-injections for young johnny damons, carlos beltrans & zack greinkes. until glass runs out of clever schemes to put folks into the seats, stops jettisoning talent AND takes a massive hit to His investment, we'll never be able to compete in the modern day of ball. it has nothing to do with A-Rod or his shriveled HGH-riddled member. it's pathetic the Rangers fucked the rest of the MLB with that silly contract, but it's even sillier glass hasn't yet been run out of town for his blatant apathy towards building a contender in a section of USA that worships the hardball.

What month is it? That Braves@Brewers games yesterday was some straight playoff baseball. Wasted effort by Lowe but our offense was just baffled by Gallardo. Still, our offense is a little sluggish right now.

Best way to approach baseball is in 10 game stints. An approach I've only started using in the last few years. If you think of a 16 game NFL season where games are at a premium, how you do in 10 game stretches are at a premium. Put it like this, if you go 6-4 every ten games, you'll win 96 games. Good enough for playoffs almost every year.

Yeah, that was a great game. I was really impressed by Atlanta's defense late in the game. The Brewers threatened a few times late, but they made some excellent plays to keep it at 1-0. Lowe looked really good...it took a somewhat fluke hit by Braun to score that one run. Gallardo looking strong, I love that guy.

Axford successfully saved his first game of the season last night, and Fielder finally got some RBI's... and they're winning yet again today (so far). Go Brewers!!!

And the Red Sox just fell to 0-6 with the Yankees up next... yikes!!

I'm not gonna make excuses because heaven knows I'm ecstatic about how we started the season. But, cracks are starting to show. Bergesen just hasn't matured like I (and probably the organization) had hoped. There's a reason he was supposed to start the season in the bullpen. Verlander was amazing last night. I think if anything, this season is going to show that our rotation is going to be crazy scary in the next 2 years. Matusz, Arrieta, Britton, Tillman, all incredible talent, and that's who is already up in the bigs. We've got some talent maturing in the minor leagues as well.

Speaking of prospects, my Hagerstown Suns are the team that gets Bryce Harper until he moves up to AA. Went to their workout Tuesday night, and saw him take BP. Just saying--not exciting. Not that I expect the kid to bomb every pitch, but you could see that having the media there was freaking him out a little bit. Oh, and can I rail about professional autograph hunters? Let the kids go in front of you. Let them get the foul balls. Let the kids have a memory of a game.

I can't wait for this weekend's TEX-BAL series...hope the Rangers can knock their former manager SUCK BLOWALTER down a few pegs.

NY TIMES Wrote:
Manny Ramirez retired from baseball Friday instead of facing a 100-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, according to two people briefed on the matter.

Ramirez tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug during spring training and was recently informed of the positive result, according to the people.

In a news release, the commissioner’s office said it had recently notified Ramirez “of an issue under Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.”

The statement added, “Rather than continue with the process under the Program, Ramirez has informed M.L.B. that he is retiring as an active player.”

The commissioner’s office said that if Ramirez wanted to return to baseball, he would have to face discipline for his positive test.

The positive test in spring training was the third time Ramirez tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

In 2009, he was suspended after his urine sample from spring training had elevated levels of testosterone. The New York Times reported later in 2009 that Ramirez was among the roughly 100 players who tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug in 2003, when testing was conducted on an anonymous survey basis.

Ramirez played 66 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2010 and 24 games for the Chicago White Sox, hitting .298 with 9 home runs and 42 runs batted in in 90 games.

He signed as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Rays in January and was 1 for 17 in five games this season.

The Rays said in a statement: “We are obviously surprised and disappointed by this news. We will have no further comment on this matter, and our fans and organization will carry on.”

Baltimore is a very impressive young team - I didn't really mean to denigrate the O's in my post. I'm just excited with the changes the Tigers made this year.
